El hecho se registró hacia las 9:20 p. m., cuando el exmandatario se encontraba en un establecimiento comercial de su propiedad, acompañado de su escolta. Según la información entregada por la Policía, hasta el lugar habrían llegado dos personas que se movilizaban en una motocicleta y que, presuntamente, abrieron fuego sin mediar palabra. En medio del ataque, López Gutiérrez recibió heridas de gravedad y fue trasladado de urgencia al Hospital Piloto de Jamundí. Sin embargo, pese a los esfuerzos médicos, falleció debido a la severidad de las lesiones. El caso generó preocupación por las circunstancias en las que se produjo la agresión contra Ramírez, quien gobernó el municipio entre 2020 y 2023. Las autoridades adelantan las investigaciones para esclarecer lo sucedido, establecer los móviles del atentado e identificar a los responsables. Quello che sembrava essere un incidente d'auto mortale, in realtà potrebbe essere servito a nascondere un femminicidio.
