Rovena Ibrahimi: After five years of trying, I spent five months of my pregnancy on bed rest

She had been sentenced to death in 1996, after being found guilty of murdering Job Corps classmate Colleen Slemmer in 1995.The convicted killer is now the only person known to have survived the lethal injection and the second inmate in US history to survive a fully-carried out execution.Pike's discharge comes days after it was revealed that she had been able to walk and talk while in hospital."Her recovery is medically unprecedented," read a previous statement from her legal team. 9 Communication Habits That Quietly Turn Small Conflicts Into Big Ones New

9 Communication Habits That Quietly Turn Small Conflicts Into Big Ones

1. Listening Only Long Enough to Prepare Your RebuttalWhen you are mentally building your defence, you may hear the other person’s words without understanding their concern. The conversation becomes two competing speeches rather than an exchange.Try summarising what you heard before responding: “It sounds like you felt dismissed when I changed the plan.” This does not mean you agree with every detail. It shows that you understand the issue well enough to address the actual hurt instead of the argument you expected.2. Defending Your Intent Before Acknowledging Their ImpactGood intentions do not automatically erase a painful outcome. Saying “I didn’t mean it that way” too quickly can sound like a request for the other person to stop feeling hurt.Start with the effect: “I can see why that embarrassed you.” You can explain your intention afterward, when it no longer sounds like an escape route. People are often more willing to hear context once they feel that their experience has not been dismissed.3. Turning One Painful Moment Into an Absolute PatternWords such as “always” and “never” make a complaint feel like a verdict on someone’s entire character. A missed call becomes “You never care,” and one forgotten task becomes “I always have to do everything.”Keep the discussion tied to the specific event and its effect. “When you didn’t call, I felt unimportant” is easier to answer honestly. Precision lowers defensiveness because it leaves room for accountability without turning one mistake into a permanent identity.4. Over-Explaining Until the Other Person Gives InAn explanation can provide useful context, but repeating it in five different ways may become pressure disguised as clarity. You may be hoping that if you explain perfectly, the other person will finally agree that your choice was reasonable.Say what matters once, then allow space for a different response. Understanding is not the same as approval. A productive conversation can end with both people seeing each other clearly while still having different opinions about what happened.5. Bringing Old Evidence Into Every New DisagreementPast events matter when they reveal an unresolved pattern, but using every previous mistake as supporting evidence can make resolution impossible. The other person ends up defending years of history instead of discussing what happened today. Before mentioning the past, ask whether it clarifies the current issue or simply strengthens your case. If an older wound still needs attention, name it as a separate conversation. One conflict is easier to repair when it is not forced to carry every unfinished conflict.6. Treating Your Assumptions as Facts About Their MotivesConflict intensifies when you claim to know why someone acted as they did: “You ignored me because you wanted control.” Even if your interpretation feels obvious, presenting it as fact gives the other person little room to explain.Describe what you observed, then ask rather than declare. “You changed the subject twice, and I wondered if you were avoiding the conversation” keeps the concern intact without pretending you can read minds. Curiosity often reveals information certainty would have blocked.7. Using Text Messages for Emotionally Loaded ConversationsText is convenient, but it removes tone, timing and facial expression—the very cues that can soften difficult words. A delayed reply may look like punishment, while a brief response may seem cold even when the person is simply busy.Use messages to arrange the conversation rather than conduct the entire conflict. If the exchange becomes tense, suggest a call or an in-person discussion. Choosing a richer form of communication can prevent both people from filling missing context with their worst assumptions.8. Demanding Closure Before Either Person Has Calmed DownThe urge to resolve everything immediately can come from discomfort with uncertainty. Yet pushing for answers while emotions are high often produces rushed apologies, harsher language or promises that neither person truly means.A pause is useful when it includes a clear return point. Instead of walking away indefinitely, say, “I need thirty minutes, and then I want to continue.” This protects the conversation from escalation without making the other person wonder whether the issue has been abandoned.9. Mistaking a Quiet Ending for Genuine RepairA conflict has not necessarily been resolved because both people stopped talking about it. Silence may mean exhaustion, avoidance or fear of making things worse. The surface becomes calm while resentment remains underneath.Real repair usually requires clarity about what happened, what each person needs and what should change next time. Revisit the issue gently once emotions settle. A simple question—“Do you feel finished with this, or did we just stop?”—can reveal whether peace is genuine or merely temporary.

Vučić hvalio kralja Aleksandra, kritičari ga podsetili na položaj njegovih potomaka

Foto: Beta/AP Photo/ autor: 10. okt. Federal Prosecutor Ordered to Take Legal Training Over Evidence-Free Claim New

Federal Prosecutor Ordered to Take Legal Training Over Evidence-Free Claim

A federal prosecutor has been sanctioned, and ordered to undertake at least two hours of legal training, after a district court judge concluded he made a baseless accusation founded on “no evidence” against the lawyer of an Iranian man fighting deportation to his home country. The ruling was made by Judge Diane J. Humetewa in the U.S. District Court for Arizona against Assistant U.S. Attorney Brooks Chupp. It demonstrates how President Trump’s immigration crackdown has led to legal conflict over the rights of migrants and the arguments their attorneys can make against deportation.Newsweek contacted Chupp, via the District Court for Arizona public affairs office, and the Department of Justice press office for comment by email on Saturday outside of regular office hours. The CaseThe controversy revolves around an Iranian man who entered the United States in January 2025 and attempted to claim asylum on the grounds of being gay, which he said would put him in danger if returned to Iran. The man, who goes unnamed in Humetewa’s ruling, said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents made two attempts to deport him back to Iran in November and December of 2025....Describing the first incident he said: “I refused to cooperate with the ICE officers. I cried and begged. I told them I cannot go back because they arrested me for being gay and they will execute me. I told them I am not safe and cannot go back.”In December 2025 Chupp said the Iranian’s lawyer, who isn’t named in the ruling, had attempted to obstruct his deportation by incorrectly arguing he had a pending immigration appeal that prevented deportation. Knowingly making false statements to a federal agency is against the law. However, the lawyer denied she made this argument and the government later admitted it had no specific records to support this claim. The RulingHumetewa concluded Chupp had violated Rule 11(b)(3) of the U.S. Federal Rules of Civil Procedure which requires attorneys to ensure that factual assertions made in court have supporting evidence. In the ruling, Humetewa said Chupp had provided “no evidence” to support his claim that the Iranian man’s attorney had falsely said he had a pending immigration appeal to block his deportation. She also said Chupp had failed to reasonably investigate his claim, such as by contacting the lawyer to ask what she has said, and that his conduct amounted to bad faith.Referring to Chupp’s claim, Humetewa said: “That inference was wholly unreasonable, unsupported by the evidence, and antithetical to the ethical rules that guide attorney conduct.”Consequently Chupp was ordered to undertake at least one hour of legal education on each of the special role of U.S. attorneys and the need for factual claims to have evidentiary support. The deadline for this is June 30th, 2027.Trump Immigration PolicyPresident Trump has made cracking down on both illegal and certain legal immigration a central plank of his second term in the White House, with his administration declaring a national emergency at the southern border and strengthening deportation policies. This has seen more migrants deported both to their home countries, and to certain third countries such as Rwanda and Eswatini. In September a federal appeals court ruled the Trump administration’s policy of deporting immigrants to third countries is unlawful.

Harry’s strained relationship with his father, King Charles, and older brother, Prince William, has been extensively documented since he and Markle stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 and relocated to California.Additionally, the couple has since publicly aired grievances against the royal family, including in their 2022 Netflix docuseries, “Harry & Meghan,” and Harry’s explosive 2023 memoir, “Spare.”He was cast on the venue’s big screen, resulting in some boos from the crowd.
