Trump's Surprising Stock Moves: What 21,000 Trades Reveal

Across President Donald Trump's first year back in the White House, his investment advisers made more than 21,000 securities trades, amassing sizable holdings in companies that are directly involved in deals tied to his administration, according to a review of his annual financial report.According to the report, Trump's investment accounts grew to at least $858 million and included stakes in approximately 1,600 companies. The staggering number of trades across eight separate accounts marks a significant departure from previous presidents, who have either divested their holdings or traded exclusively in diversified mutual funds. By contrast, Joe Biden made a total of 13 stock trades during his entire tenure as president. President Donald Trump speaks in the Oval Office at the White House in Washington, June 29, 2026.Jacquelyn Martin/AP PhotoTrump's investment advisers have also carried out more trades than prior years, according to his prior financial disclosures. For instance, the report for the first year of Trump's first term in 2017 lists 86 stock transactions. While the trades overall suggest Trump's investment portfolio is professionally managed and in line with industry practices, Trump holds stakes in dozens of companies that have government contracts, such as Palantir, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, Intel, Nvidia, as well as private prison operators GEO Group and CoreCivic. Many of the companies the president has invested in also benefit from his policies, prompting criticism from Democrats about alleged conflicts of interest. On the same day that the White House unveiled its "AI Action Plan" on July 23, 2025, Trump purchased between $1-5 million each in six companies -- Amazon, Apple, Broadcom, Meta, Microsoft, and Nvidia -- whose work with AI was directly impacted by the policy, which sought to lessen regulations on the industry.President Donald Trump stops to speak to the media before boarding Air Force One, July 1, 2026 at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland.Saul Loeb/AFP via Getty ImagesThe financial disclosure did not indicate whether those trades were executed before or after the announcement, and Trump also purchased stocks unrelated to AI that day. The White House has defended the president's stock trades and highlighted that his investment accounts are managed by professional advisers who do not regularly communicate with Trump.Popular ReadsSpeaking to reporters on Wednesday, Trump argued that "everyone" including himself is profiting from overall growth of the stock market. "You know why I'm profiting? Just ask our enemies!!! President DJT," Trump wrote on April 10 in a post that included the stock ticker of the company. After Palantir's stock suffered one of the worst weeks in a year, Trump's subsequent public endorsement of the company preceded a significant uptick in the company's stock price. Another high-profile post by Trump that moved the market -- his April 9, 2025, declaration that "THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!! DJT" -- came four hours ahead of his announcement that he would pause tariffs for 90 days. One day before that market-moving post, one of Trump's investment accounts made 327 purchases of a broad array of securities. While those trades appeared to benefit from the rally caused by Trump's post, that account also made similar trades over the last year and appeared to increase trading activity during high volatility events -- suggesting the trades may be part of a broader practice to rebalance his portfolio.

Trump Sparks Debate with Pardons Over Emissions-Related Convictions New

Trump Sparks Debate with Pardons Over Emissions-Related Convictions

A move by President Donald Trump on Friday immediately reignited debate over the limits of federal law enforcement and how far Washington should go when enforcing government regulations. The decision, which the president described as correcting a serious injustice, marks the latest example of Trump’s willingness to use his constitutional pardon power to reverse prosecutions he believes should never have happened.Trump announced he had signed pardons for six individuals convicted in federal vehicle emissions cases, arguing they were prosecuted by the Biden administration simply for “fixing their car.”“It is my Great Honor to have just signed Pardons for six people who were persecuted by the Biden Administration, and were in, or being sent to, prison, for ‘fixing their car,'” Trump wrote on Truth Social.“While I know this sounds ridiculous, it is nevertheless a fact, and part of the Weaponization and Stupidity that our Country had to endure during four long years of Sleepy Joe Biden,” Trump added.Advertisement The White House has not publicly identified the six individuals or released details about their cases. The pardons involve federal prosecutions tied to so-called “defeat devices,” aftermarket equipment that bypasses or disables factory-installed vehicle emissions controls, which are prohibited under the Clean Air Act.The move comes after the Department of Justice itself announced earlier this year that it would no longer pursue criminal prosecutions for individuals accused solely of installing defeat devices. In a January statement, the DOJ said it remains “committed to sound enforcement principles, efficient use of government resources, and avoiding overcriminalization of federal environmental law.”The department said it would instead rely primarily on civil enforcement actions, working alongside the Environmental Protection Agency when appropriate. That policy shift represented a significant departure from the Biden administration, during which federal prosecutors aggressively pursued criminal cases involving emissions-control modifications.Trump argued the six pardons reflect that change in philosophy.Supporters of the move contend the punishments were excessive for vehicle modifications commonly performed within the diesel truck community to improve engine performance or fuel economy.Critics, however, argue emissions-control laws exist to protect air quality and public health, and that disabling those systems violates longstanding federal environmental regulations. The pardons follow an earlier clemency action involving a Wyoming mechanic who served seven months in prison after being convicted on similar emissions-related charges. That case became widely known among conservatives, who argued the mechanic was subjected to an overly aggressive federal prosecution. The six new pardons continue Trump’s broader effort to use executive clemency during his second term. The president has already granted clemency in thousands of January 6-related cases and has repeatedly described the pardon power as a tool to reverse what he considers politically motivated prosecutions.Trump has consistently accused the Biden administration of weaponizing the federal justice system against ordinary Americans. While the latest pardons involve environmental crimes rather than politically charged offenses, Trump framed them in similar terms.Several questions remain unanswered. The administration has not disclosed whether the individuals received full pardons or sentence commutations, though Trump’s announcement suggested full pardons.Officials also have not released the specific charges or court records associated with each case. The Washington Examiner reported the White House did not immediately respond to requests for additional information. The pardon announcement came as reports surfaced that Trump is also weighing clemency requests in several unrelated high-profile cases. There is no indication those matters are connected to Friday’s emissions-related pardons. The Constitution grants presidents broad authority to issue pardons for federal crimes without congressional approval.Trump has exercised that authority more aggressively than many recent presidents, arguing it serves as a safeguard against government overreach, CBS News reported.Friday’s action underscores his continued effort to reshape how federal criminal law is enforced, particularly in cases involving regulations that many conservatives believe became overly punitive under the previous administration. This article may contain commentary which reflects the author's opinion.

Why New York's Patriotism Ranking is Making Headlines New

Why New York's Patriotism Ranking is Making Headlines

The Empire State ranked among the least patriotic states in the Union, per the study. lowthian - stock.adobe.com New York is apparently not the red-white-and-blue bastion that the 250th Anniversary Parade might suggest. The Empire State ranked the second least patriotic state in the Union, according to a troubling study by WalletHub. New York was the second to last with an overall patriotism score of 28.96 out of 100. WalletHub didn’t specify why New York, the birthplace of the US government under the Constitution, would place so low in the patriot games. However, it notably fared abysmally in terms of military and civic engagement, notably boasting the least number of veterans per capita in the Union. The Statue of Liberty is seen in New York Harbor during the Parade of Ships on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Luiz C. Ribeiro for NY PostCoincidentally, this comes as NY’s democratic socialist mayor Zohran Mamdani was blasted for decrying capitalism and Trump’s immigration crackdown in an address marking America’s 250th anniversary Friday — while sitting at George Washington’s desk. The survey, conducted in honor of the Fourth of July, ranked the 50 regions based on two “key dimensions:” “Military Engagement” and “Civic Engagement.”The main categories were evaluated across 13 relevant metrics that were weighted on a 100-point scale “with a score of 100 representing the highest level of patriotism.”One of fourteen headframes, nicked named “gallows frames”, dot the Butte, Montana skyline. Jonathan W. Cohen – stock.adobe.comThese criteria included average number of military enlistees per 1,000 adults between 2017 and 2022 (8.33 points), the share of adults who voted in the 2024 Presidential Election (25 points) and the AmeriCorpse Volunteers per capita (4.17 points). To determine their overall level of patriotism, WalletHub “determined each state’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores” to rank the states in order.Downtown Little Rock, Arkansas. rdlamkin – stock.adobe.com“The most patriotic states have a lot of residents who serve or have served in the armed forces, high voter turnouts during elections, and a high share of the population volunteering with national or local organizations,” said WalletHub Analyst Chip Lupo, describing the somewhat surprising results. “Patriotism also isn’t concentrated in any one particular area – the top states are located in vastly different geographic regions.”Meanwhile, Virginia was the most patriotic state in the Union, clocking a score of 70.07 in that regard. They excelled in terms of military turnout with nearly 1,761 active duty military personnel for every 100,000 civilians — the third-most in the country. They also have the second most veterans per capita with 103 for every 1,000 civilians.Virginians didn’t scrimp on their civic duty as they had a high voter turnout rate, with 72.9% of residents having voted in the 2024 presidential election, compared to the national average of 66%.Following on their heels in this geographical flag run was Montana, which notched a patriotism score of 67.9, borne aloft by their large voter turnout.  According to the survey, 69.2% of the state’s eligible residents showed up for the 2024 presidential election while almost 46% voted in the 2020 primary election — the highest primary turnout in the nation.Vermont, the home of Bernie Sanders, placed third (66.56), with the highest number of people per capita who served on juries over the past year. In addition, Vermont boasted the most Americorps volunteers per capita. On the other end of the red-white-and-blue color spectrum, Arkansas somewhat surprisingly placed dead last with a score of 28.23. The Natural State fared poorly in terms of voter turnout, coming last when it came to percentage of adults who voted in the 2024 election.Meanwhile, WalletHub found that, contrary to popular belief, Blue States were more patriotic than Red States, per the survey.
