Ohio House of Horrors: The Shocking Rescue of 16 Endangered Children New

Ohio House of Horrors: The Shocking Rescue of 16 Endangered Children

Four people have been charged with child endangerment after 16 children were removed from a home in Ohio where officials say they were living in "deplorable conditions."Authorities executed a search warrant at the home in Hamden in Vinton County on Tuesday, where they say they found the children and four suspects inside.Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson said the evidence in the case is "beyond comprehension.""I think if they would have waited another 24 hours, that there was a very high probability that we'd be dealing with a death or multiple deaths of these children," he said during a press briefing on Wednesday.Authorities are seen at a residence in Vinton County, Ohio, from which officials say 16 children were removed, June 30, 2026.WSYXVinton County Prosecutor William Archer said this is not a case of human trafficking, but an "intra-family situation."He described the suspects as being the "grandma, grandpa, father and mother" during Wednesday's press briefing. The four suspects -- Gary Siders Sr., 73; Christina Siders, 67; Gary Siders II, 36; and Elizabeth Siders, 33 -- have each been charged with 16 counts of endangering children, a second-degree felony, according to officials. They pleaded not guilty during their arraignment Wednesday morning and their bond was set at $300,000 each. They will likely request court-appointed counsel, officials said. The charges allege the four suspects abused the children, resulting in "serious physical harm."  The children range in age from 1 ½ to 18, according to Wilson. He did not go into the nature of the injuries but said seven of the children were transported to the hospital on Tuesday, including two who were airlifted there. One of the children was in critical condition, Wilson said.Archer said the children are safe and officials are working to have them placed in temporary custody."They are currently in a good situation and are being protected," he said. From left: Elizabeth Siders, Christina Siders, Gary Siders Jr. and Gary Siders Sr., are seen in booking photos on June 30, 2026.Southeastern Ohio Regional JailWilson said the investigation has been ongoing for some time, and that a separate but "parallel" investigation led law enforcement to execute the search warrant on Tuesday.Popular ReadsThe family had lived in Vinton County for the past four years and were "clearly bouncing around," according to Wilson."They were pretty adept at keeping these kids out of sight and out of investigative eyes," he said. The children were not enrolled in school, according to Wilson. The eldest child is included among the charges because the 18-year-old is believed to developmentally still be a minor, officials said."Some of these children couldn't even speak," Wilson said. "It was terrible."Vinton County Sheriff Ryan Cain described the condition of the house as "disgusting," including the presence of human feces, and said the children were largely confined to a small area."Most of our livestock is kept in better condition than the children," Cain said during Wednesday's briefing.Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine called the situation "tragic.""It is heartbreaking to learn the conditions that these children were living in, and to learn of their medical conditions," DeWine said in a statement, which also thanked those helping them.ABC News' Sasha Pezenik contributed to this report.

Carl Rinsch's Lavish Spending Exposed in Netflix Fraud Scandal New

Carl Rinsch's Lavish Spending Exposed in Netflix Fraud Scandal

Carl Erik Rinsch attends New Directors' Showcase presented by Team One, Saatchi LA in Los Angeles, Calif., on Sept. 23, 2015. John Sciulli/Getty Images for Team One, Saatchi LAHollywood filmmaker Carl Rinsch has been sentenced to 30 months behind bars after fraudulently obtaining and misusing $11 million provided by Netflix for a science-fiction television series that was never completed.Monday’s sentencing comes after the 48-year-old was convicted on multiple federal charges in December, which included wire fraud and money laundering.According to prosecutors, the streaming giant originally invested $44 million into production between 2018 and 2019, and sent an additional $11 million at Rinsch’s request to complete the long-delayed project titled “White Horse.”The funds were used to make lavish purchases on items that included luxury vehicles, designer goods, and approximately $1 million in mattresses and luxury bedding. Rinsch also made cryptocurrency investments, earning a profit before depositing money into his personal accounts. The show, which began filming around 2016, centers around developing technology, such as superintelligent clones coming in contact with humans, and was originally funded by two separate media companies prior to Netflix.Six short-form episodes were completed at the time; however, the remainder of the television series, as well as the funds provided, were never returned to the company.Related StoriesDuring his sentencing hearing, Rinsch acknowledged his behavior, with his defense team pointing to mental health struggles, arguing it clouded his judgment.“This process has forced me to confront things about my health, my judgment and my life,” Rinsch told the court on Monday, before publicly apologizing for his actions. ”Real harm was caused. I failed to recognize the danger of the state I was in.”The presiding U.S. District Judge, Jed S. Rakoff, recognized his issues but concluded it did not excuse what the court described as a deliberate and sustained scheme to misuse funds entrusted for a major television production.“Mr. Rinsch had every possible advantage,” said prosecutor David Markewitz, before adding that his motive stemmed from “naked greed.”Best known for directing the 2013 fantasy film “47 Ronin” starring Keanu Reeves, Rinsch received support from the actor who wrote a letter to the court requesting leniency ahead of sentencing.“[Rinsch] brings exceptional joy and warmth to the people around him, and creative inspiration to others through his creativity and vision,” wrote Reeves, adding that he hopes the sentence ”might be tempered with measures of leniency and mercy as well as justice.”Rinsch is ordered to repay the $11 million involved in the fraud and will also serve a period of supervised release after completing his sentence. Attorneys for the director indicated that he intends to appeal the sentence. The Epoch Times has contacted Netflix for further comment on the matter but has not heard back by the time of publication. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Nara Smith's Heartfelt Revelation About Daughter's Cancer Journey

Influencer and cookbook author Nara Smith is opening up about her family's private health journey, revealing that her 2-year-old daughter, Whimsy Lou, was diagnosed with cancer late last year.Smith, 24, shared the news in an Instagram video on Wednesday, saying she and her husband, model Lucky Blue Smith, 28, first sought medical attention after noticing "something suspicious" on their daughter."When we saw something suspicious on her, we took her to the ER, and they didn't quite know what to make of it," Smith said. "So when we took her into our pediatrician, I just remember him going really quiet and calm ... My heart dropped in that moment. I don't know whether it was my gut telling me something or just a mom's intuition, but the first thing that I felt was, 'She has cancer.'"Nara Smith attends the "A Night Of Extra" Beauty Evening at Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, March 20, 2026, in Los Angeles.Tommaso Boddi/Getty ImagesSmith said Whimsy later underwent X-rays, ultrasounds and a biopsy before doctors confirmed her cancer diagnosis."After a lot of X-rays, ultrasounds, and finally a biopsy, they immediately called us and said that she had cancer," she said. "[They] told us it had spread, and that she need[ed] to come and start chemo treatments immediately."Smith did not disclose what type of cancer her daughter has or provide an update on Whimsy's current condition. The social media creator said connecting with other parents and families facing similar experiences has helped ease the feeling of isolation she experienced following her daughter's diagnosis."All of that combined really brought me a lot of comfort and alleviated the feeling of loneliness for me," she said, adding that "processing this and navigating all of this as a family has been really hard."Smith also shared that balancing her daughter's treatment while caring for her children, recovering postpartum -- her youngest child was born in September last year -- and keeping up with work has been challenging."A lot of you have probably realized that I've been posting a little less and this is the reason why," she said. "Having found all of this out and navigating this while postpartum, also loving and caring for our other kids at home, also being in the hospital with Whimsy a lot and balancing work on top of that has been really challenging."She said finding a balance remains a daily struggle."Some days are a little easier, some days are really hard, and all I can do is try my best and show up in all those areas in the best way that I can," she said.Smith added that she decided to publicly share her family's experience in hopes of helping others facing similar circumstances."We wanted to share this to hopefully bring someone else that comfort [we felt after connecting with others in similar situations] or even incentivize you to go get something checked out that you've been avoiding," she said.In the video's caption, Smith expressed gratitude for the doctors and nurses who cared for her daughter, writing that she is "thankful for each and every nurse and doctor along our journey who helped us get through and out the other end."Smith, who has more than 12.4 million followers on TikTok and 4.7 million on Instagram, is known for sharing cooking videos and family-focused lifestyle content. Her debut cookbook, "Homemade," is scheduled to be released in October.ABC News has reached out to Smith's representative for comment.

Taylor Swift's Otter Shirt Comeback Sparks Excitement Among Fans

Taylor Swift showed her love for otters in the “End of an Era” documentary. Disney+It’s an otter emergency.Taylor Swift may have a history of selling out designer duds and accessories, but one of her more affordable recent looks has a charitable tie.Fans went crazy when the Grammy winner 36, wore an otter shirt from the Monterey Bay Aquarium in her “Taylor Swift: The End of an Era” documentary, immediately selling out the tee. Now, it’s back and available to shop for $65.13 — the price a nod to the singer’s favorite number, obviously. The design was originally created in the ’90s by illustrator and children’s book author Chris Van Dusen and reprinted by Liberty Graphics on a 100% cotton shirt. The price isn’t just for the cost of the tee, but also a donation to the world-famous aquarium, which is known for its pioneering sea otter program as well as North America’s largest collection of deep-sea animals. The center served as the inspiration for Pixar’s 2016 “Finding Nemo” sequel, “Finding Dory.” The shirt is back in stock — and benefits the Monterey Bay Aquarium conservation efforts not only for otters, but its other sea creatures as well. While it’s unclear what exactly Swift’s connection to the California attraction might be, her fiancé, Travis Kelce, recently shared his obsession with otters on his “New Heights” podcast.Sister-in-law Kylie Kelce later symbolically adopted a giant river otter at the Philadelphia Zoo in the tight end’s name — and named him “Uncle Trav.”The last time the Monterey Bay Aquarium stocked the limited-edition shirts, they raised a staggering $2.3 million in less than two days.“The response was beyond our wildest dreams,” the institution shared, with a wink to the Swift song. For the second year in a row, cases of measles — known as the world’s most infectious disease — will hit record highs, and 2026 is on track to be substantially worse than 2025.In a matter of weeks, we’re likely to blow past last year’s total, hitting the highest number of cases in 35 years.“This is a major public health warning sign,” epidemiologist Dr. Syra Madad told The Post. “The US is already close to last year’s total with about half the year still ahead.”The US is on track to have the highest number of measles cases in 35 years — and it’s only July Anela/peopleimages.com – stock.adobe.comThe total number of measles cases for 2025 was 2,288, the highest since a 1991 outbreak that infected 9,500. As of June 25, there have been 2,134 confirmed cases this year in the US.That means it’ll take just 155 more cases — a number that could be covered fairly quickly — to beat that record, which was hit in December of last year.“Unless we interrupt transmission quickly, 2026 is likely to surpass 2025 and could do so substantially,” Madad warned.“We should be cautious about making exact projections because outbreaks can slow when vaccination campaigns, isolation, contact tracing and community engagement are effective. But the current pattern is deeply concerning.Last week, someone with measles exposed scores of travelers at LAX to the disease. In May, New York city officials alerted diners at an Italian restaurant they might’ve been exposed over the course of three hours.Measles spreads when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes. It can linger in the air even two hours after the person leaves.Symptoms appear a week or two after a person is exposed. People may experience a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. Two to three days later, white spots may appear in the mouth. Three to five days later, a rash will appear. They’re contagious starting four days before the rash and four days after. There is no cure or antiviral treatment, and two out of every five people with measles end up getting hospitalized. Pneumonia is the most common severe complication from measles.“This is not simply the return of a childhood rash illness,” Madad said. Measles can cause serious complications and even death. ÃÂðÃâðûÃÅàÃÅðùÃËõòð – stock.adobe.com“This is not simply the return of a childhood rash illness,” Madad said. “Measles can cause pneumonia, encephalitis, hospitalization and death, especially in young children and medically vulnerable people.”The disease can also introduce a deadly neurological condition that can strike decades after the initial infection.“The measles is sort of sitting around in your brain and causing, on the cellular level, changes that sit there quietly. And 10, 20-plus years later, they come and destroy your brain,” Dr. Sharon Nachman, chief of pediatric infectious diseases at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, previously told The Post.Vaccination is the only way to prevent it, sinc nine out of ten unvaccinated people will get measles if they come in contact with it. Unfortunately, vax rates are declining.According to the CDC, 93% of cases this year are in people who are unvaccinated or of unknown vaccination status. And over half are kids aged 5 to 19.And no, this isn’t a result of travel or visitors from the World Cup. Ninety-three percent of cases were acquired here, in an outbreak. “That suggests we are not just importing measles. We are allowing it to spread here,” Madad said.Over half of the measles cases in the US this year were kids aged 5-19.Measles is spreading across the country, but Utah and South Carolina recorded the most cases. Close behind are Texas, Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Arizona.Utah’s first outbreak was in June 2025 and hasn’t let up since. Statewide, 12.8% of kindergartners were missing their vaccine, putting the state far short of the 95% vaccination rate needed to prevent measles outbreaks.“Measles only needs a small opening,” Madad said. “Measles was declared eliminated in the US in 2000, but elimination is not a permanent trophy. It has to be protected through consistently high vaccination coverage, fast outbreak detection, and strong local public health response.”If vaccination gaps remain, she stressed, the future could be even bleaker.“Measles will continue to find susceptible communities next year and beyond,” she said. “That means more outbreaks, more quarantines, more school and childcare disruptions, more strain on already stretched health departments, and a continued risk of severe illness and death from a disease we know how to prevent. The good news is, the problem is “recoverable.”“The US achieved elimination before, and it can regain control by restoring high MMR coverage, strengthening surveillance, and responding rapidly to every case,” Madad said.

Nara Smith's Heartfelt Revelation About Her Daughter's Cancer Battle
