Police were forced to intervene during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first official outing in Nottingham, England, on Thursday, after crowds mobbed their Range Rover and blocked their exit.
According to Hello! Magazine’s royal correspondent who was there covering the visit, police had to break up the crowds that were surrounding the car, telling them to “tuck in” and “keep shuffling back.”
Police were also present on the streets surrounding the children’s charity the couple was visiting, Epic Partners on Edale Road.
Page Six reached out to Nottinghamshire Police for comment.
Thursday marked the couple’s first official joint engagement since they moved back to the United Kingdom in August.
Harry, 42, and Markle, 45, attended an acting workshop at the Community Recording Studio, followed by a meeting with the Hubb Community Kitchen members at the Himmah Hub food bank.
Their final stop of the day, where police were forced to intervene, was at Epic Partners.
The couple have moved back to England with their two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, just six years after they took a “freedom flight” from Canada to Los Angeles.
While in California, the family lived in a $14 million mansion in Montecito, California, where they may celebrate the holidays this season.
In August, Page Six exclusively revealed that the couple were moving back to the UK to be closer to Harry’s dad, King Charles, and to ensure that their children build connection with their family.
Despite his return, Harry is still estranged from his brother, Prince William.
King Charles announced last month that the As Ever founder and her husband will not act as working royals while living in England, and are “private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.”
However, it looks like the two have been enjoying their time back across the pond so far, as they’ve been spotted around town.
Prince Harry has made a number of appearances since being back, like attending the Invictus Spirit Gala and a rugby game, where he was booed by the crowd.
Markle, for her part, was seen spending time with exiled expat Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, at the Three Horseshoes pub near Burford, Oxfordshire in September.
Earlier this month, she also spent a girls’ night out with Malala Yousafzai at the lavish Claridge’s hotel in London.
The two partnered to bring Markle’s As Ever jam company and Malala Fund together for International Day of the Girl on Oct. 11.
