Megyn Kelly's Emotional Plea to Erika Kirk: Step Down and Heal

One year after Charlie Kirk was shot and killed, Megyn Kelly is hopeful that Erika Kirk will reevaluate her position within her late husband’s nonprofit organization, Turning Point USA. “I personally would like to see her take some personal time just so she can remove herself from the nonstop battering ram that is heading up a political organization in the United States of America, and allow herself a year to just work on healing,” Kelly, 55, shared on the Thursday, September 10, episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored on YouTube. “Helping her kids heal and herself heal. I don't know what she's going to do, but that's my prayer for her.” According to Kelly, it has been “very painful” to watch her “dear friend” suffer and deal with critics in a time of grief. “The overwhelming suffering has been caused by Charlie's murder and not by the internet nonsense, but that's been an added burden on her,” she claimed to host Piers Morgan. “There's no question, and I don't like it. I wish it weren't happening. I wish people would move on and just see the evidence that's there.”

Kelly continued, “But I think part of the reason this is happening is because Erika stayed in the public eye as the CEO of Turning Point, and therefore, in some ways, criticism of her is fair game.” While Kelly said the conspiracy theories surrounding Charlie’s death are “all nonsense to me,” the criticisms of Erika's behavior or public appearances are more fair game if she’s the head of a political organization. “People who think that she's not grieving correctly. Look, all I can say, they're entitled to their opinions. I don't share their opinions, but I can't censor their opinions either,” she said. “The way Erika could avoid that is by not being the CEO of Turning Point, and she and I have had many conversations about this together.” Founded in 2012, Turning Point USA is a nonprofit organization that advocates for conservative politics on high school, college and university campuses. One goal is “to empower generations of patriots to stand for freedom, defend liberty and win the American culture war.” “I think she feels very strongly that she was the only one who could get the organization through at least the first year,” Kelly said in her latest interview. “And she's done that — miraculously and heroically, she's done that.” Charlie was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. He was 31 years old.

Accused killer Tyler Robinson was later arrested and charged with aggravated murder and six other counts. He has pleaded not guilty. Days before the first anniversary of Charlie’s death, Erika, 37, penned a personal op-ed for The New York Times about grief. “I am still learning how to walk through each day carrying the grief I feel for my Charlie. Some days I have a vague understanding of God’s plan, others I don’t, but I trust Him completely,” she wrote via X on Monday, September 7. “He is my only strength. I also know grief can be lonely, and sometimes hearing someone else put words to it makes us feel a little less alone. … Suffering does not get the final word. Only God does.”
