Prince George's Eton College Debut: Why Everyone's Talking

Prince William and Kate Middleton dropped off their eldest son, Prince George, for his first day at Eton College on Tuesday.

The proud parents braved the rain as they walked alongside the 13-year-old while on their way into William’s alma mater in Berkshire, England.

For the special day, the Princess of Wales looked elegant in a forest green dress paired with sleek curls and black pumps as she held a black umbrella over her head.

As for the future king, he wore a black suit with a blue tie and brown shoes, keeping a closed umbrella by his side. Their son matched in a similar outfit, not yet in his school uniform.

The trio radiated excitement as they laughed, chatted and smiled at the cameras before meeting with school officials at the doors of the impressive institution.

Simon Henderson, the headmaster of the school, and Sir Nicholas Coleridge, the provost of Eton and the chair of the governing body, welcomed the royal family to the school, shaking their hands enthusiatically.

“Welcome,” Henderson told George, per People. “Good luck. Enjoy it.”

Neither of William and Middleton’s youngest children, Princess Charlotte nor Prince Louis — who attend the Lambrook School in Berkshire, near Ascot — was present.

Exactly 31 years ago, a then-13-year-old William walked through the school doors with his then-separated parents, Princess Diana and then-Prince Charles, for his own first day of school at Eton. He attended from 1995 to 2000.

Meanwhile, his brother, Prince Harry, also attended the prestigious school from 1998 to 2003.

On June 16, William and Middleton confirmed to Page Six via a Kensington Palace spokesperson that George would attend Eton College, following in his father’s footsteps.

Eton College is an all-boys boarding school in Berkshire, England. It was founded in 1440 and is the largest boarding school in England.

George had been attending Lambrook School in Ascot with his two younger siblings. Before that, George and Charlotte went to Thomas’s Battersea in London.
