Lindsay Clancy's Fundraiser Skyrockets After Shocking Mistrial Announcement
Lindsay Clancy supporters are flooding a fundraising page after her high-profile murder trial ended with a hung jury after an intense week of deliberations.
A GoFundMe page set up for Clancy’s parents, dubbed “The Musgrove family fund,” has raised over $1.1 million and counting – edging closer to the whopping $3 million target.
In an update on the fundraising page Friday, the same day the mistrial was declared, organizer Brandee Mulligan announced that the financial goal would be raised.
“I’ve decided to raise the goal of this fundraiser since this process has been extended, so is the time Paula and Mike will remain away from their home, continuing to carry the costs that come with being there for their daughter every day,” Mulligan wrote.
“The original purpose of this fundraiser hasn’t changed — it’s simply to take one thing off their plate while they continue to show up for their family. If they have to keep showing up longer, I want to make sure the support does too.”
A GoFundMe spokesperson confirmed that the page is “verified” in a statement to the Daily Mail.
The fundraising page’s bio claims that “Mike and Paula are the named beneficiaries of this GoFundMe and receive the funds directly. I do not have access to the money. The fundraiser was established with their knowledge and consent, and Lindsay’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, is aware of it.”
However Mulligan, a 42-year-old mother of three, previously told the Mail she didn’t have contact with the Musgroves and “did it without even asking permission.”
“…It was just kind of an, “Oh my God, I hope this works out,” kind of thing’,” she said.
The Post has reached out to GoFundMe, Clancy’s defense lawyer Kevin Reddington, Brandee Mulligan, and Paula and Mike Musgrove, but did not immediately hear back.
Clancy faced a grueling seven-week trial after she was accused of murdering her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3 and baby Callan, eight months, by strangling them with exercise bands.
After the killings, Michael, 70, and Paula Musgrove, 73, relocated 150 miles from their Wallingford, Connecticut, home to where their daughter lived in Duxbury, Massachusetts.
Reddington argued that the mother was in the throes of postpartum psychosis, worsened by a myriad of prescription medications, while prosecutors alleged she was in her right mind and had carefully planned the killings.
The 12-person jury, made up of nine women and three men, sent three impasse notes declaring a unanimous verdict could not be reached – ultimately forcing Judge William Sullivan to declare a mistrial on the seventh day of deliberations.
One-off and monthly donations from $5 to $300 flooded the fundraising page after the decision was made, alongside messages of support.
“My heart is with Lindsay and her parents. I cannot imagine the depth of the pain your family has endured and continues to carry,” one person wrote.
“This is donation #5,” another penned. “I can’t imagine what Lindsay and her family are feeling right now…”
