Anne Hathaway's Pregnancy Sparks Buzz in 'Days of Thunder 2' Reveal
Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway will star in a “Days of Thunder” sequel, the stars announced in conjunction with Paramount Pictures on Saturday.
Cruise and Hathaway appeared in an Instagram Reel to make the big announcement, with the original “Days of Thunder” star and “Devil Wears Prada” actress standing in front of a bright yellow and green race car reading “Days of Thunder 2 Summer 2028.”
After posing for the camera, Hathaway — rocking a cowboy hat — looked at Cruise and quipped, “Now what? Let’s make the movie!”
Hathaway — who is visibly pregnant in the clip — then suggested she should have her baby “and then make this movie,” to which the “Top Gun: Maverick” star replied, “That’s a good idea.”
“We’re coming out summer of 2028!” Cruise then said, “Don’t be late!”
Hathaway replied, “Are you sure you wanna go with that?” before bursting out in laughter.
The iconic actor, 64, will reprise his role as NASCAR star Cole Trickle, while Hathaway, 43, will play an engineer and team owner.
Cruise — along with Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper — will produce, and Jonathan Levine will direct, according to Deadline.
The “Risky Business” actor starred in the original film back in 1990, alongside ex-wife Nicole Kidman.
The former couple met on the set of the movie and married later that year, but after welcoming son Connor and daughter Isabella via adoption, they divorced in 2001.
In a 1990 interview with “Rolling Stone,” a then 28-year-old shared why he wanted to make the now iconic racing movie.
“I wanted to take an audience for a ride at 200 miles an hour and have them live to tell about it,” he told the outlet.
“I thought about the sensations of being at the track. The smell of burning rubber … the incredible feeling you get when you’re standing on the turns and the cars come around so fast it almost blows you off the wall. I wanted to get inside this world where success and failure come week to week.”
The heart-thumping action movie proved to be a massive hit, ultimately grossing $157.9 million at the worldwide box office against a production budget of approximately $60 million, according to IMDb.
