Paul Pelosi Sparks Outrage After Alleged Hit-and-Run Incident
Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is in the news again, and not in a good way.
The longtime investor could face some jail time after allegations that he enriched the family using inside information from his lawmaker wife.
Paul Pelosi is suspected of crashing into a parked car and driving away from the scene Friday afternoon in Northern California, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said.
Pelosi allegedly struck a vehicle on the 6700 block of Yount Street in Yountville, around 2:30 p.m. local time, the sheriff’s office said.
The vehicle, which was unoccupied, was legally parked on the side of the roadway and was left with major rear damage, according to the sheriff’s office.
CBS News reports that Yountville is about 50 miles north of San Francisco, where the couple live.
Deputies said they were told by a witness that the driver who hit the car briefly stopped, but then left the scene.
The vehicle that left the scene was described as a brown-colored convertible, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office said deputies soon found the suspect vehicle partially blocking Yountville Cross Road and that a California Highway Patrol vehicle was parked behind it.
Deputies then learned that the driver was 86-year-old Paul Pelosi and noticed that the vehicle had significant damage on the front right side, the sheriff’s office said.
According to the sheriff’s office, Pelosi admitted to hitting something but told them he did not know what he hit, so he kept driving.
He allegedly told deputies he continued to drive until his vehicle became disabled.
Deputies said an investigation ruled out alcohol being a factor in the crash and that Paul Pelosi was not arrested in accordance with misdemeanor arrest laws.

“A California DMV re-evaluation referral form will be submitted to DMV, which is common for elderly drivers,” the sheriff’s office said.
The case has since been forwarded to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office, CBS News reports.
A spokesperson for the Pelosis has since released a statement.
“Mr. Paul Pelosi has personally apologized to the owner of the vehicle and assured them that he would take responsibility for the damage to their vehicle. Speaker Pelosi will not be commenting further on this private matter,” said the statement.

In October 2022, Paul Pelosi was the victim of a violent break-in and politically motivated attack in the couple’s San Francisco home.
David Wayne DePape, 42, of the San Francisco suburb of Richmond, was indicted by a federal grand jury after being arrested for the alleged attack on Oct. 28, Axios reported.
He was accused of breaking into the home and attacking Pelosi with a hammer. Pelosi later underwent surgery for a fractured skull.
He was also treated for serious injuries to his right arm and hand.
“DePape is charged with one count of assault on an immediate family member of a U.S. official with the intent to retaliate against the official on account of their performance of official duties,” Axios reported at the time.
“He’s also charged with one count of attempted kidnapping of a U.S. official on account of the performance of official duties,” said the report.
In May 2024, Depape was sentenced to 30 years in prison and five years of supervised release.
“This sentence is a warning: violence against those who serve the public and their families will not be tolerated,” said then-Attorney General Merrick B. Garland.
“The Justice Department will aggressively prosecute those who target public servants and their families with violence,” Garland added.
“In a democracy, people vote, argue, and debate to achieve the policy outcome they desire. But the promise of democracy is that people will not employ violence to affect that outcome,” he added.
