Conor Kennedy's Extravagant Wedding Plan Outshines Taylor Swift's
Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend is planning to top her July Fourth weekend wedding in a big way.
Swift is leasing New York City’s Madison Square Garden for her nuptials to NFL player Travis Kelce over the July Fourth weekend — an event sources claimed will be “bigger than the Met Gala,” promising a who’s-who of A-list celebrity attendees.
Not to be outdone, Conor Kennedy, 31, is marrying Brazilian pop star Giulia Marinho, 26, with their nuptials set to take place against the backdrop of her country’s most iconic landmark, the nearly 100-foot Christ the Redeemer statue that stands above Rio de Janeiro.
“One of the first things I said [to Conor was], ‘I love you, but I’m not getting married in Massachusetts,'” Marinho said in an interview with Brazil’s Gshow magazine earlier this month.
“I think Brazil is one of the best places to get married. We know how to do it, we give ourselves body and soul, and the party doesn’t end at 10 p.m. This is something really important that I wanted to show people.”
The couple, who already had a small civil ceremony in Los Angeles in March, is heading to the bride’s hometown for a three-day extravaganza that includes a lavish “blessing” dinner at the statue on Corcovado mountain, which stands 2,300 feet above sea level and offers breathtaking views of the city.
Hundreds of guests from around the world are scheduled to converge on the beachfront city, according to Marinho, who is known professionally as Giulia Be.
Conor is the son of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. He and more than 150 members of the Kennedy family and friends from the groom’s side are expected in Rio for the wedding, the magazine said. President Trump is also invited, The Post revealed last year.
Kennedy dated Swift for a few months in 2012, when she was 22 and he was 18. The pop star even bought a seven-bedroom home for $4.8 million near the Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port, although she later sold the property at a $1 million profit, according to reports.
Conor is the eldest son of RFK Jr. and second wife Mary Richardson, who died by suicide in May 2012. The couple had four children, and Kennedy has two other children from his first marriage to Emily Black.
Conor and Marinho, who have been together since 2022, wanted to commemorate Richardson with a shared tattoo, she told the magazine.
“We are both Catholic, and his mother died when he was 17 years old, and I thought it would be cool to do some kind of homage to Mary,” Marinho said. “So we did an Immaculate Heart of Mary [tattoo], which is a symbol that we knew we would never regret.”
In addition to the dinner at Christ the Redeemer, the Roman Catholic wedding ceremony will take place at Rio’s Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé, a rococo landmark in downtown Rio built in the 16th century.
Another dinner party is scheduled to follow at a mansion in the city’s Botanical Garden neighborhood.
“I’m from the most beautiful city in the world, and this was my only chance to really bring the whole family and friends to Brazil, to show them the best of Brazil,” said Marinho
Like Conor, who works as a lawyer in California, Marinho’s family is also involved in politics. Her father, entrepreneur Paulo Marinho, is a former state senator in Rio de Janeiro.
Although he once supported right-wing former President Jair Bolsonaro, he switched his allegiance to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Brazil’s Marxist leader, who has been in power since 2023.
