A Cleveland Guardians fan drew criticism after a viral incident during a game on April 27, where he wrestled a home run ball away from a young girl at Progressive Field. The event was captured on the TV broadcast during the Guardians' game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Incident Caught on Camera

In the fifth inning, Daniel Schneemann hit a two-run home run, and the ball landed near fans in the stands. An adult fan bobbled it and then took it from a young girl as she tried to pick it up. He walked away celebrating while she returned to her seat disappointed.

Announcers Andy Freed and Brian Anderson commented during the broadcast that such behavior shouldn't happen.

Response and Resolution

Tampa Bay's on-field reporter Ryan Bass intervened by giving another ball to the girl, sharing a clip of the moment online. He described his actions as using "bonus girl dad energy."

The girl's mother, Nikki DeVoe, confirmed that her son bravely asked for the ball back but was unsuccessful. She praised Bass and the Rays' team for their actions in restoring her faith in good sportsmanship.

Outcome

The man eventually returned the home run ball later in the game. DeVoe expressed appreciation for everyone involved, noting that although it wasn't quite the same experience, they were grateful for how things were handled.
