Easter Tragedy: Babysitter Charged
Arrest in the Death of Georgia Toddler
A 71-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 3-year-old boy in Atlanta on Easter Sunday. Barbara Edwards, identified as the babysitter of Armani Lyons, faces multiple charges.
Details of the Charges
Edwards was arrested on April 13 and faces charges including cruelty to children, murder, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Another individual, Jermaine Hardeman, 35, faces similar charges but remains at large.
Authorities announced they established probable cause to issue arrest warrants for both suspects. The motive for the shooting has not been disclosed.
Community Response and Investigation
The child's grandmother publicly urged Edwards and Hardeman to surrender to authorities. A GoFundMe page organized by Dinisha Lyons highlights the family's grief over losing Armani.
Assistant Police Chief Carvan Tyrus noted that Armani was in Edwards' care when he suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after police responded to the incident.
The case continues to unfold as investigators gather more information. Armani is remembered by family and friends as a vibrant child whose life was cut tragically short.
