Justin Timberlake's Lawsuit Against Long Island: Reputation at Stake?

Share Post

Justin Timberlake has filed a lawsuit against the town of Sag Harbor to prevent the release of bodycam footage from his June 2024 arrest. The public release of the video is currently sought through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Legal Proceedings

In court documents, Timberlake argues that the footage shows him in a vulnerable state during his interaction with police and reveals intimate details of his behavior at the time. His lawyer claims that releasing the video would harm Timberlake's reputation without serving any public interest.

The lawsuit names Timberlake as the petitioner and includes the Village of Sag Harbor, its police department, and Chief Robert Drake as respondents. Both parties did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Incident Details

The arrest occurred after Timberlake allegedly ran a stop sign and swerved on the road. Despite claiming he only had one drink, he failed field sobriety tests according to police reports, which also noted signs of impairment.

Charges and Sentencing

Timberlake initially pleaded not guilty to driving while intoxicated but later agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge of driving while ability impaired. He was required to complete community service, pay fines, and had his driver's license suspended for 90 days in New York.

In a statement following his sentencing, Timberlake urged others not to drive after drinking, emphasizing alternative transportation options like taxis and ride-sharing services.
