Former Prince Andrew's 11-Hour Jail Stay: Mug Shot, DNA Swabs, and a Call
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, previously known as Prince Andrew, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and treated like a common criminal suspect. Around 20 officers conducted the operation at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate.
Arrest Details
The arrest involved officers from Thames Valley Police and Norfolk Constabulary. They arrived at his residence in unmarked cars and informed Andrew, who recently turned 66, of his arrest.
Andrew was issued a standard legal warning and permitted to prepare under officer supervision while his property was searched.
Processing and Detention
After an hour, Andrew was transported alone to Aylsham Police Station with police escort vehicles accompanying him. On arrival, the legality of the arrest was verified, and a health check was conducted.
He underwent routine processing, including mugshot, fingerprinting, and DNA sample collection. He made one phone call before interrogation.
Investigation Continues
The investigation extended to other properties linked to Andrew during his custody. He was released around 7 p.m., visibly shaken as he left.
King Charles III expressed concern regarding the news but assured full cooperation with the authorities. The case ties back to claims about confidential documents sent to Jeffrey Epstein by Andrew while acting as a UK trade envoy.
