Trump's Speech Raises Eyebrows with Melania Remarks

Share Post

During a speech at the Board of Peace meeting in Washington, D.C., President Trump made several unscripted remarks. He addressed officials from around the world, including Paraguay’s president Santiago Peña Palacios.

Remarks at the Meeting

Trump acknowledged Peña Palacios with a humorous compliment, calling him "young and handsome." He added that while he likes women, he is indifferent to men. These comments elicited some surprise among attendees.

The speech diverted to a previous incident at the United Nations, where an escalator malfunction occurred as Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were present. Initially, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt requested an investigation into the incident.

Reflecting on Past Incidents

Trump showed amusement about the UN escalator event, referring to it playfully as "escalator-gate." He also mentioned an issue with a teleprompter during his last UN speech.

He joked about how Melania was positioned in front of him on the escalator, allowing him to stop his fall gracefully. Trump continued with a playful tone, appreciating Melania's presence.

UN Response

Despite initial concerns that the escalator incident was deliberate, the United Nations later clarified it stopped due to a safety mechanism. This was possibly triggered by a videographer standing behind Trump and Melania, as reported by BBC News.
