A man originally from Mississippi, Jaiden Becerra, has been arrested in Hawaii on charges of abuse, kidnapping, and sexual assault. The incidents allegedly occurred between January 22 and January 29 in Mountain View, Hawaii. Becerra, 25, is accused of holding a woman captive at his home and hitting her 1-year-old son.

It is unclear how Becerra and the victim came into contact or if they knew each other before the alleged crimes. Becerra was arrested on January 29 and initially granted bail set at $178,000. However, prosecutors brought the case before a grand jury on February 4, where they requested no bail be set.

Charges and Court Proceedings

During the grand jury hearing, three additional counts of sexual assault were revealed, leading to charges including kidnapping, felony abuse, sexual assault, and abuse of a minor. Becerra is scheduled to appear in court on February 10 and is currently held at the Hawaii Community Correctional Center awaiting trial set for June 22.

Becerra pleaded not guilty to the charges in Hilo Circuit Court on February 6. The case is being prosecuted by Kirsten Selvig, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. The Hawaii Police Department has not provided updates on the case as of yet.

Legal Consequences

The kidnapping charge against Becerra is a Class A felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison. The second-degree sexual assault charges are Class B felonies, with a possible sentence of up to 10 years. The felony abuse charge is a Class C felony, carrying a penalty of up to five years in prison or probation with jail time.

The investigation into the allegations against Becerra is ongoing as prosecutors gather evidence for the case. The victim has obtained a temporary restraining order against him, which was granted on February 2.
