Mom and Daughter Accused of Abducting Woman Pushed Off Cliff

An Alabama woman, Loretta Carr, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Mary Beth Isbell. Additionally, she received 20 years in connection with Isbell's kidnapping. Carr pleaded guilty to first-degree kidnapping and murder in court records viewed by AL.com.

According to District Attorney Summer Summerford, the incident occurred on October 18, 2021, when Carr and her daughter, Jessie Kelly, confronted Isbell over a relationship issue. The mother-daughter duo then attacked and kidnapped Isbell, taking her to an overlook at the Little River Canyon National Preserve.

At the Wolf Creek Overlook, Carr secured herself with a rope, forced Isbell to climb over a barrier, and then pushed her off the canyon cliff. Isbell's remains were found at the bottom of the canyon, devastating her family and loved ones.

Daughter's Involvement and Sentencing

Jessie Kelly, Carr's daughter, pleaded guilty to a murder charge in connection with Isbell's death and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. She was 24 years old at the time of sentencing.
