Get the Scoop on the Trump Video Attacking Obama! Check Out the President's Truth Social Update
A video with racist undertones featuring former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama was briefly posted on Donald Trump's Truth Social account before being taken down.
Controversial Video and Outrage
The video included baseless election fraud claims about the 2020 presidential election, ending with cartoon depictions of the Obamas as apes set to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight."
Comparing Black individuals to apes is a well-known racist trope, especially during Black History Month, which celebrates the achievements of Black Americans. Barack Obama was the first Black president in U.S. history.
Reactions and Defense
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt labeled the video as an "internet meme" comparing Trump to the Lion King and Democrats to characters from the movie.
Despite the defense, the video was removed, with an official attributing its posting to an error by an unnamed staffer.
The video triggered widespread condemnation, with Senator Tim Scott, the sole Black Republican in the Senate, calling it the "most racist thing" he had seen from the White House and urging its removal.
Barack and Michelle Obama have not publicly addressed the video since its deletion.
