King Charles Intervenes as Uganda Rejoins Prince Harry's Invictus Games New

King Charles Intervenes as Uganda Rejoins Prince Harry's Invictus Games

Published 19:55 14 Sep 2026 GMT+1It comes after the King reaffirmed Harry and Meghan as 'private citizens' King Charles has stepped in after a Commonwealth nation said it would be withdrawing from Prince Harry's Invictus Games in Birmingham next year. It's certainly been a noisy few weeks for the British royal family after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they would be moving back to the UK following a number of years in the US.The King issued a letter earlier this month describing Harry and Meghan as 'private citizens' and stated they were not to use their HRH titles after ditching their royal duties in 2020.The pair hit back at the statement, stating they were 'surprised' by the King's remarks ahead of returning to the UK .AdvertWell, last week, Uganda’s General Muhoozi Kainerugaba stated his country would not take part in the Invictus Games unless they received permission from King Charles.Harry founded the games in 2014 to help wounded servicemen and women.Harry and Meghan have recently returned to the UK (Jonathan Brady-Pool/Getty Images)General Kainerugaba, the son of Uganda’s president, told The Times: “I have factions in the Ministry of Defence that support that Harry-Meghan nonsense. I had to quash it straight away. I support the monarch. Period.”In a post shared on X, he added: "In order not to be construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere, Uganda hereby withdraws from the Invictus Games.“We shall not participate in anything that does not have His Majesty's approval.”However, in a recent development, Uganda's military leaders have said they will be competing in the games after all following a phone call with the King's principal private secretary, Sir Clive Alderton.Sir Clive told Uganda officials that the King had 'no problem' with the country's participation in Birmingham next year. The King's principal private secretary, Sir Clive Alderton (Chris Jackson/Getty Images)A Ugandan military spokesman said Sir Clive "encouraged the CDF [Chief of Defence Forces] to proceed with preparations" ahead of the Invictus Games in July 2027.The spokesman added: "In the telephone conversation, General Kainerugaba appreciated the King's message and clarity provided by Buckingham Palace on the subject, promising that the UPDF [Ugandan People's Defence Force] would resume preparations to participate in the upcoming games."In wake of the news, Rob Owen, CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation, stated "Uganda has confirmed it will continue to be part of the Invictus community."Owen added in a statement: "Uganda became our 26th nation earlier this year, joining a growing movement that provides year-round recovery opportunities for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans across the world."Featured Image Credit: Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty ImagesTopics: Royal Family, Prince Harry, King Charles III

Costco's Motor Oil Rationing: What Does It Mean for Shoppers? New

Costco's Motor Oil Rationing: What Does It Mean for Shoppers?

Costco has reportedly started rationing its house brand of motor oil this week, limiting purchases to two boxes per week, as drivers across the country continue facing higher gas and diesel prices. The membership-only warehouse club, which has long prided itself in selling products at discounted prices in bulk, has introduced the purchase limit after significantly raising the price of Kirkland Signature full synthetic motor oil, The Auto Wire first reported. The product—a 5-quart, two-bottle case of engine oil for gasoline-powered vehicles—is used during oil changes to lubricate and protect an engine’s moving parts, helping to reduce wear, manage heat, and keep the engine running efficiently. It is now listed on Costco’s website for $57.99, up from an average in the mid-$30s which the company had maintained for years, according to the automotive-focused news media. In the product details, Costco warns members of a "limit of one transaction per membership, with a maximum of two units every seven days." It is unclear how long the cap will remain in force.Other motor oil product purchases are also capped, with sales of a six-quart case of Mobil 1—currently costing $44—capped at five per member....According to The Auto Wire, there are only two reasons why a company like Costco would cap purchases of motor oil: either they are not confident they can keep it in stock in the future, or they think the price might rise so much in the future that would make no financial sense letting customers stock-buy the product now.Newsweek contacted Costco for comment by email on Monday and is awaiting a reply. Why Is Costco Capping Purchases—And Will Other Sellers Follow? While 10 percent to 20 percent of a synthetic motor oil like the one sold by Costco consists of chemical additives, between 80 percent and 90 percent of it is made of base oil, a product obtained by refining crude oil.Considering the spike in oil and gas prices that has followed the start of the war in Iran in late February, oil companies are now making more profit turning crude oil into petrol, diesel or jet fuel instead of motor oil ingredients. Because of this, they are likely to produce less motor oil. It is this supply squeeze which pushes prices up through manufacturers, distributors and retailers, until consumers see a higher price on the shelf even at a normally budget-retailer like Costco. On top of that, higher quality standards and more demanding tests for motor oil introduced in recent years have made production a costly business. For drivers trying to save money on oil changes by doing it themselves, this is bad news. Especially as Costco, the only company which has so far capped purchases, is not the only retailer affected by the motor oil supply squeeze.Oil prices were still surging on Monday, rising more than 3 percent from the previous day after a surge of around 9 percent last week following a fresh wave of attacks in the Middle East. Brent crude—the global price benchmark for roughly two-thirds to three-quarters of the world’s traded crude oil—rose above $100 a barrel last week and climbed over $108 on Monday, as Yemen’s Houthi forces launched a series of attacks on Saudi Arabia....Costco's major competitors have not introduced purchase limits as of now.Walmart offers equivalent-name-brand synthetic oil at roughly $32 per 5-quart jug, while a pack of two goes for nearly $64. AutoZone sells a pack of two bottles of Mobil 1 Standard Full Synthetic 5W-30 Engine Oil 5 Quart for $40.99. On Amazon, the same product goes for $31.97 for one bottle and $63.94 for two.Newsweek contacted Walmart, AutoZone and Amazon for comment by email on Monday and is awaiting responses.Costco’s Kirkland motor oil is a well-known low-cost alternative to premium brands, and its unusually attractive price might be a reason why the retailer has introduced limits on its purchase to prevent stockpiling and resale.Contact Newsweek editors on this story: Ben Kelly and James Debens

Tebligatın bugün parti genel merkezine ulaştığını söyleyen Sözcü yazarı İsmail Saymaz, tebligatta partinin "Yeni Parti" adını kullanamayacağının ve ismin değiştirilmesi gerektiğinin bildirildiğini aktardı.BAŞVURUNUN GEÇMİŞİ 2024'E DAYANIYORSaymaz, isim tartışmasının geçmişinde Yenilik Partisi'nin başvurusu bulunduğu bilgisini paylaşarak eski CHP milletvekili Öztürk Yılmaz'ın kurduğu Yenilik Partisi'nin, "Yeni Parti" isminin kullanılmasına itiraz ettiğini belirtti.2024 yılında bir grup vatandaşın "Yeni Parti" adıyla siyasi parti kurma girişiminde bulunduğunu belirten Saymaz, o dönemde de Yenilik Partisi'nin itirazı üzerine Yargıtay Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı'nın söz konusu ismin kullanılmasına karşı çıktığını söyledi.'ÖNLERİNDE İKİ SEÇENEK VAR'Saymaz, Yargıtay Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı'nın Yeni Parti'ye gönderdiği yazıda geçmişteki sürecin de aktarıldığını ve partiden ismini revize etmesinin istendiğini ifade etti. Why Bob Mackie's Legacy Continues to Dazzle Even After His Passing

Bob Mackie, the legendary fashion designer famous for his sparkling creations, died Monday at the age of 87.“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr. Bob Mackie passed away today,” read a statement shared on his social media accounts. “He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do. His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world.”A cause of death has not yet been revealed.Bob Mackie, legendary costume and fashion designer, has died at the age of 87. He cut his teeth working for Jean Louis — and famously sketched the gown Marilyn Monroe wore to President John F. Kennedy’s 1962 birthday party. He created all of the costumes — evening gowns, character outfits and guest clothing — for “The Carol Burnett Show.” He was the genius behind tens of thousands of outfits from 1967 through 1978, including the iconic “curtain dress” from the “Went With the Wind!” sketch, which is now housed in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. He counted Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, Liza Minnelli, the Supremes, the Temptations, Elton John, Tina Turner, Madonna and more as clients. He had a lasting partnership with Diana Ross and created her gorgeous 1986 wedding gown. picture alliance via Getty ImagesRoss, pictured here in 2001 with Mackie, often modeled his glittering and feathered looks on the stage. Bettmann ArchiveMackie famously told Cher not to associate him with her risqué “If I Could Turn Back Time” music video. Michael Ochs ArchivesAfter meeting Diana Ross in 1969, the two became very close and Mackie even designed her wedding dress when she wed Arne Naess, Jr. in 1985: a stunning silk number with a long-sleeved lace cape.Mackie’s most lasting collaboration was with Cher, whom he met on the set of “The Carol Burnett” show when the singer was a guest star. The pair famously butted heads at points, with Mackie telling Page Six Style last year that when he first met Cher, he thought, “This girl is not my style. All the pictures of her were like frowning and pouting with Sonny [Bono].”But their creative collaboration endured through seven decades and made fashion history. Some of their most renowned looks include Cher’s naked dress from the 1974 Met Gala, her wild 1986 Oscars set complete with a feather headpiece, and the racy bodysuit from her 1989 “If I Could Turn Back Time” video (with which Mackie infamously asked not to be associated). The designer dressed A-list celebrities in a glittering array of rhinestones, fur, feathers, sequins and all that dazzles. FilmMagicIn the late ’80s, Mackie teamed up with Mattel to design clothing for Barbie dolls, a partnership that lasted decades and saw him create nearly 50 individual dolls, including shaping their face and likeness as well as their clothes. He launched his eponymous fashion label in 1982 and has won nine Emmy Awards and earned three Academy Award nominations. In 2019, he won a Tony Award for Best Costume Design in a Musical for his work on the jukebox musical “The Cher Show.”Pop stars of today have often looked to Mackie’s most iconic designs, too. Sabrina Carpenter, Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande have all worn vintage Mackie on multiple occasions. Paramount's Potential Exit from California Sparks Major Economic Concerns New

Paramount's Potential Exit from California Sparks Major Economic Concerns

California could lose as many as 58,000 jobs and more than $21 billion annually if Paramount follows through on a threat to move its headquarters and operations out of the state amid a widening antitrust fight over its Warner Bros. Discovery takeover, according to a new economic analysis. The preliminary report by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp.’s Institute for Applied Economics examines the fallout if Paramount abandons California after a coalition of 12 Democratic state attorneys general, led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta, sued to block the merger. The report was first obtained by Politico.Paramount’s historic studio lot in Hollywood. A new economic analysis warns that a full relocation of the company’s California operations could cost the state nearly 58,000 jobs and $21.2 billion in annual economic output. Getty ImagesAbsent a deal, Paramount has indicated it would be compelled to move its headquarters and thousands of jobs out of California beginning Oct. 1, potentially to Georgia, Tennessee or Texas, the analysis said. The stakes could be enormous.A full relocation of Paramount’s California operations would result in the permanent loss of between 28,990 and 57,980 full-time jobs statewide, including direct jobs and employment supported through vendors and household spending, according to the report.California could also lose between $10.6 billion and $21.2 billion in annual economic output, while state and local tax revenue could fall by roughly $585 million to $1.17 billion a year.Paramount Chairman and CEO David Ellison is trying to close the company’s Warner Bros. Discovery deal as the media giant battles a state antitrust lawsuit and weighs a possible move out of California. Variety via Getty ImagesThe report stressed that those figures represent a worst-case scenario based on assumptions about Paramount’s California footprint because the company does not publicly break out operating expenses or employment by state.Paramount reported about $19.7 billion in operating expenses in 2025, according to the analysis. LAEDC assumed that between 30% and 60% of those expenses — roughly $5.9 billion to $11.8 billion annually — are tied to economic activity in California.Even a slower pullback could deliver a sizable hit.If Paramount reduced California spending to help offset roughly $1.88 billion in merger-related ticking fees and financing costs, and spread those reductions evenly over five years, the state could lose between 550 and 1,110 job-years — the equivalent of that many full-time jobs lasting one year — annually and between $202.7 million and $405.4 million in yearly economic output, according to the analysis. The threat comes as Paramount faces mounting pressure to get its WBD deal over the finish line. The states sued July 13 alleging the combination would reduce competition in wide-release theatrical films, anticipated top-grossing films and the licensing of basic cable channels.California Attorney General Rob Bonta is leading a coalition of 12 state attorneys general seeking to block Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on antitrust grounds. Getty ImagesThey are seeking to permanently block the merger under the Clayton Act — the century-old federal antitrust law used to block mergers that may substantially reduce competition. That puts the states at odds with the Justice Department, which closed its own investigation in June without suing to stop the transaction after concluding it was not likely to harm competition in streaming, linear television or theatrical film development, production and distribution. The merger agreement also raises the financial pressure on Paramount as the calendar approaches October.California Gov. Gavin Newsom presides over a state that could face billions of dollars in lost economic activity if Paramount ultimately relocates its California operations, according to the LAEDC analysis. AP Photo/Jeff ChiuThe agreement provides for additional payments to WBD shareholders if the deal closes after Sept. 30, while the LAEDC report estimates those so-called ticking fees at about $7 million a day beginning Oct. 1.Paramount has offered to guarantee 30 theatrical releases a year from the combined company as part of its effort to resolve the dispute, according to the LAEDC report.LAEDC estimated that commitment could generate between 1,020 and 2,760 job-years in California and between $377.7 million and $1.01 billion in statewide economic output over five years.“California is the fourth largest economy in the world and the best place to do business,” Bonta’s office said in a statement.“Strong antitrust enforcement is essential so everyone can benefit from a vibrant economy.”The attorney general’s office added that “When companies create a monopoly and illegally use that power to get out of negotiating, that hurts our economy, it hurts Californians, it makes things more expensive, and it makes things worse.”A Paramount spokesperson declined to comment.

Macklemore's Onstage Comments Spark Fallout from Ed Sheeran Tour New

Macklemore's Onstage Comments Spark Fallout from Ed Sheeran Tour

Updated 17:39 14 Sep 2026 GMT+1Published 17:16 14 Sep 2026 GMT+1breakingMacklemore has been dropped from the remaining US dates of Ed Sheeran’s Loop TourMacklemore has issued a response after being dropped from the remaining US dates of Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour following his onstage comments about the war in Palestine. The rapper's speech calling to 'free Palestine' was also met with criticism from pop star Pink, which Macklemore addresses in his statement. Pink, born to a Jewish mother, said she would 'keep speaking out' despite being 'hurt' by backlash after reposting criticism of Macklemore’s speech. In a lengthy post on Instagram, Macklemore wrote: “I’m going to speak from the heart and share the truth.Advert“Ed Sheeran and his team have made the decision to remove me from The Loop tour.“But before I get into it, I want to say something that should be obvious. In this moment I think it matters. I am not a victim. Ed Sheeran is not a victim. Pink is not a victim. We have careers, money, opportunities, safety and audiences around the world. Whatever consequences any of us face for what we say, we get to go home to our families.Macklemore previously said his criticism of Israel is 'in no way a criticism' of his 'Jewish brothers and sisters' and that he is fighting for 'equality' (ARNAUD FINISTRE / AFP via Getty Images)“The victims are the Palestinian people. The men, women and children who have been killed, starved, displaced and forced to live through unimaginable violence. More than 20,000 children have been killed in Gaza alone. People are being killed today, and people will be killed tomorrow. I want to make sure that as I tell this story, we don’t lose sight of that.”Macklemore opened for Sheeran at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey last week and told the audience he wanted people in Gaza and the West Bank to know they had not been forgotten amid the conflict with Israel.Following the unprecedented Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage, the Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response. More than 73,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then.Macklemore said he understands Sheeran's response (Lyvans Boolaky/WireImage)His statement continues: “Last Monday, in the middle of all the media attention surrounding Pink and what I said at MetLife, Ed told me that Robert Kraft called him. We were scheduled to play Gillette Stadium later this month, which is owned by the Kraft Group. Ed told me that Kraft said I would not be allowed to perform in his stadium. Ed also told me that Kraft had rallied some of the other stadium owners and collectively they gave him an ultimatum: if Macklemore stays on the tour, you will not be allowed to play in our venues.“Ed was in a ****** up position. He knew it. His typical apolitical stance was being challenged in a way it never had been before. He told me that the words 'Free Palestine' and the image of the Palestinian flag were hurtful to a lot of people he spoke with. I told him that if those words were more offensive than tens of thousands of Palestinian children being killed by Israel, then there was a fundamental disconnect between where those people stood and where I stood. But he couldn’t get past his public facing: I don’t take sides.“And I get why people don’t. Taking a side can cost you. Money, brand deals, sponsorships, festivals, private shows, relationships and access. I’ve lost all of those things. But there is no neutral position between the oppressor and the oppressed. When one side has the bombs and bottomless financial and military support from America, refusing to take a side doesn’t leave you in the middle.”Featured Image Credit: Kieran Frost/RedfernsTopics: Ed Sheeran, Music, Celebrity

New

“90 Day Fiancé” Season 12 star Catie brazenly cheated on Josh multiple times just months after the two got married.Catie’s shocking transgressions are revealed on the first part of this season’s tell-all, which aired Sunday on TLC. While Catie has a history of making out with multiple people when she’s drunk — and blaming it on having obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) — she promised in the finale that she would be faithful to Josh after tying the knot. But that definitely hasn’t been the case. Catie has a breakdown multiple times during the tell-all, specifically when she’s confronted about her concerning behavior.“90 Day Fiancé” couple Catie and Josh’s relationship after they got married has definitely not improved, it was revealed on the first part of this season’s tell-all that aired Sunday. (They’re pictured above.) TLCCatie (seen here) admits she made out with four other people during their New Year’s Eve party. TLC“On New Year’s Eve, I was bad,” she admits, smiling as she says she made out with four other people. As she continues to laugh, her fellow cast-mates sit silently, seemingly showing their disapproval.Josh says he’s “disappointed” in Catie “crossing boundaries,” and when Edward notes that he’s too nice, Catie bites back that her husband’s “not that nice.” When host Shaun Robinson asks her if she thinks her partying is the problem, she bursts into tears.“Everyone thinks I’m a bad person,” she sobs. “I don’t like this.”“I’ve been trying to get better,” she insists.Catie gets emotional as she’s confronted about her bad behavior. (She’s seen here with Josh.) TLCShe says she doesn’t like that she made out with multiple people in front of her husband, insisting she’s “trying to get better.” (Catie is pictured above.) TLCBut Catie continues to awkwardly laugh as they play back cringe-worthy video of her this season aggressively trying to make out with her friends in front of Josh. When Josh confronts her about her cavalier attitude, she says she’s “stress laughing.”Later, the extent of her cheating gets exposed after producers bring in her friends Ryan and Danica to comment on Catie and Josh’s marriage. Danica recalls that Josh and Catie had a rooftop party on New Year’s Eve, and Catie invited her “crush” from her run club and made out with him twice — once in plain view of Josh — until she cut her off.Danica recalls that Catie, 26, then chugged a bottle of champagne, and she saw her make out with two more people that night, including an older man named Robert who is in his 50s.Josh, 30, says he actually had to intervene when he saw Catie going into the bathroom with the first guy she made out with, and asked him to leave. Catie admits she doesn’t know how far she would have gone with the guy if Josh didn’t stop them, and says it’s possible it would have went past kissing. But later, Catie, 26, sobs as her friend Danica notes she not only made out with her “crush” at her running club twice that night, but also with a man in his 50s as well as with a female friend. (Catie is seen above.) TLCJosh (pictured here) also shares that he actually intervened when he saw Catie and the first guy she made out with heading to the bathroom together. TLCAt this point, Catie has an unexpected outburst, defiantly telling Josh, “I can do whatever I want. I don’t have to listen to you!”“I just want to be young and just live my life,” she adds. When her castmates ask her if she even wants to be married, she bursts into tears and yells, “I don’t know!”Catie has an outburst and tells Josh she doesn’t need to listen to him and doesn’t like being with him. (They’re seen together here.) TLCShe dramatically walks out of the tell-all (as pictured above.) TLCBackstage, a producer comforts Catie as she continues to have a breakdown (as seen here). TLC“I don’t enjoy being together, sorry,” she tells Josh. “I think I do better on my own.”Catie walks out of the tell-all and continues to sob as a producer comforts her backstage.“I don’t care if I make out with people, it’s fine,” she says. “I don’t want to talk to any of them ever again.”“90 Day Fiancé” airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on TLC.
