İlk seçimde, meclis üyeleri başkan vekilliği seçimini yaparken üçüncü turun ardından, ara verilmemesi gerekirken seçime ara verildi. Carlos “Charly” López era uno de los rostros de La Bajadita. Durante años estuvo detrás del mostrador, despachando tacos y atendiendo a los clientes que llegaban hasta este negocio familiar de Álvaro Obregón. La noche del viernes, una explosión terminó con su vida y golpeó directamente a su familia.Para quienes conocían La Bajadita, Charly no era un desconocido. Era el hombre que estaba ahí, frente a la plancha, despachando los tacos que durante años convirtieron al negocio de la calle Jacintos en un punto conocido por los vecinos de la zona. Especial La taquería era un negocio familiar y también el sustento de varias personas de la familia López. Entre quienes se encontraban en el lugar estaban sus hermanos Bryan, Jesús Geovanni, su madre Irma y la novia de Bryan, quien también trabajaba en La Bajadita y resultó lesionada. Especial La noche del 11 de septiembre todo cambió.Una fuerte explosión provocó daños en varios inmuebles y dejó personas atrapadas entre los escombros. Aunque inicialmente se señaló a la taquería como el punto donde habría ocurrido el estallido, posteriormente se estableció que la explosión habría sido provocada por acumulación de gas en un inmueble contiguo, cuya onda expansiva alcanzó directamente a La Bajadita.Entre las víctimas estaba Carlos “Charly” López, de aproximadamente 55 años, quien murió en el lugar. La tragedia alcanzó también a otros integrantes de su familia. Especial Bryan López resultó lesionado y tuvo que ser atendido. Su madre, Irma, permanecía bajo atención médica, mientras que su hermano Jesús Geovanni López, de 22 años, sufrió un derrame cerebral y fue trasladado para recibir atención especializada. La novia de Bryan, quien además de ser parte de su familia era trabajadora de La Bajadita, también resultó lesionada. Especial Durante años, La Bajadita fue mucho más que un lugar para comer tacos. Era el negocio con el que esta familia se ganaba la vida y un punto conocido por los vecinos de Minas de Cristo. Ahora, detrás de los muros dañados y los escombros, queda la historia de una familia que perdió a uno de los suyos y que enfrenta las consecuencias de una tragedia que cambió para siempre el lugar donde durante años trabajaron juntos. Charly era ese hombre que muchos clientes identificaban detrás del mostrador. El que despachaba los tacos, el rostro cotidiano de La Bajadita. Other studies have found that it acts through the gut," Dr Makoto Fukuda, Associate Professor of Paediatrics-Nutrition at Baylor said."We looked into the brain as it is widely recognised as a key regulator of whole-body glucose metabolism. We investigated whether and how the brain contributes to the anti-diabetic effects of metformin."There's a part of your brain known as the ventromedial hypothalamus, where a protein called Rap1, which has an impact on your body's metabolism of glucose, can be found.The scientists discovered that when metformin works, it turns off the Rap1 protein in this part of the brain, and when testing on genetically modified mice without this protein in that part of their brain, they found it didn't work.Feeding the animals a high-fat diet to mimic the effects of type 2 diabetes, they found that metformin didn't lower blood sugar in mice without Rap1.Tests on mice found metformin had a significant impact on their brains (Getty Stock Images)Other diabetes treatments like insulin and GLP-1 agonists (the same family of drugs as Ozempic) still worked.They then injected metformin into the mice's brains and found a significant drop in blood sugar, even at a dose much lower than when taken orally.This discovery shows the drug, when taken normally, needs to affect a change in the brain to properly work, and Professor Fukuda said more research was needed that could lead to new treatments for diabetes or even slowing down the ageing of the brain.He said: "These findings open the door to developing new diabetes treatments that directly target this pathway in the brain."In addition, metformin is known for other health benefits, such as slowing brain aging.
