Trump's 'Salute to America' Promises Record-Breaking Fireworks and Fiery Speech New

Trump's 'Salute to America' Promises Record-Breaking Fireworks and Fiery Speech

Thousands of fireworks, more than two dozen military flyovers and a reflective speech by President Trump – that won’t be apolitical – are some of what revelers willing to brave the heat can expect at Saturday night’s “Salute to America” bash in Washington, DC. The grand festivities on the National Mall to commemorate America’s 250th birthday promise to be a  “once in a lifetime” event, giddy organizers told The Post, even as planners scrambled to keep attendees safe from the scorching temperatures expected in the nation’s capital. Here’s how the celebration will unfold on July 4:Trump speaks at a rally at the Great American State Fair on June 24, 2026. AP Photo/Jack AurestoFlyoversAt 1:14 p.m. ET, one of NASA’s supersonic F-5 light fighter jets will streak across the sky over Washington – the first in a steady stream of aircraft set to fly over the National Mall.  Freedom 250’s jam-packed schedule lists multiple aircraft flyovers and demonstrations taking place every hour up until 8:22 p.m.  The US Navy Blue Angels; the US Air Force Thunderbirds; F/A-18F Super Hornets; F-22 Raptors; F-35 stealth fighters; and US Coast Guard helicopters and fixed-wing planes are among the aircraft slated to treat the crowd. The US Army’s Golden Knights parachutists will make multiple jumps, while Trump’s new Air Force One is set to make a couple passes over the festivities. The flyovers will be capped off by a B-1 stealth bomber performing an “afterburner night pass” at 10:36 p.m. –  just after Trump’s speech and right around the time the fireworks spectacular will take place. Revelers can expect to see fireworks at Trump’s “Salute to America” bash. PyrotecnicoTrump’s remarksThe president is expected to arrive on the National Mall in the evening, where he’ll address the crowd beginning at 9:45 p.m. from a massive stage in front of the World War II Memorial, with the Lincoln Memorial serving as a backdrop.“He’ll reflect on the last 250 years of this still very young country,” a senior administration official told The Post. “He’ll also talk about what he sees in the next 5, 10, 15 years. It’ll be a good chance for him to also remind people of all the accomplishments that we’ve made, not just in the past year and a half, but during his first term as well, and some of the administration’s priorities moving forward for the rest of the term.”While focused on celebrating America, Trump’s speech will include “rally messaging elements,” according to the official, and incorporate some of the elements he deployed during his speech on the National Mall last week kicking off the Great American State Fair.   Trump supporters can expect barbs from the president aimed at the “communists” who have unseated congressional incumbents in recent midterm primary elections and other political commentary. Drones put on a show in the sky near Independence Hall in Philadelphia on Thursday, July 2, 2026. AP Photo/Jack Auresto“He’s never apolitical,” the senior administration official noted. Freedom 250’s schedule suggests Trump will speak for about 45 minutes, but if he decides to go off-prompter – as is often the case – the remarks may take double that time to complete. On Wednesday, Trump teased that he would give a lengthy speech to spite the extreme heat.“By the way, on July 4th, it’s going to be approximately 107 degrees out, and I’m gonna go and I’m gonna make a really long speech just to show that I can do anything,” he said outside the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in North Dakota. Revelers can expect to see a fireworks show at the America 250 celebration. PyrotecnicoRecord-setting fireworks“Salute to America” organizers plan to unleash a pyrotechnic display of historic proportions to end the evening.More than 850,000 fireworks will be launched from two land sites and eight barges in the Potomac River over the course of 40 minutes after Trump’s speech concludes. If organizers can pull it off, the spectacle will shatter the Guinness World Record for the largest fireworks display, previously set when 810,904 projectiles were launched during 2016 New Year celebrations in the Philippines. “This is a once in a lifetime experience from a fireworks perspective,” said Rocco Vitale, the president of Pennsylvania-based Pyrotecnico, the company producing the display. “I would highly encourage people to come down and enjoy the show.” Pyrotecnico, Event Strategies, Inc., and Freedom 250 have been working on the show since January, and Vitale indicated that from the outset the goal was to go big to mark the historic occasion. “We’ve worked tirelessly to make sure that this is an experience – America 250 is an experience in itself – and this fireworks display is going to add to that amazing moment for the country,” Vitale said. People gather at the Great American State Fair Kickoff Celebration on June 24, 2026 at the National Mall. Getty Images“It’s difficult to put into words how big of a scale this fireworks display is,” he continued. “It is an absolutely huge fireworks display … one on a scale that people have never seen before.”While promising that the entire show will be “fantastic and amazing,” Vitale teased a particularly spectacular beginning and end to the display.“We wanted to really make sure that the first visual of this really met the moment,” he said, “and it opens up in a way that people will be in awe.” “And of course the ending of it is just a grand finale that no one has ever seen before.” While pyrotechnics unfold, a mixed military band featuring members from all branches of the armed forces will play 11 songs spanning six decades of popular music, including Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin,’”  Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” and Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA.” Vitale said his team is keeping an eye on the forecast but he doesn’t expect the weather to impact the show. “We’re just looking for a nice little wind,” he said. “A good breeze will help us push the smoke out.” Freedom 250 and Pyrotecnico declined to comment on the cost of the spectacle. A Freedom 250 sign seen at the National Mall on July 2, 2026. ZUMAPRESS.comTight securityFor the first time, the National Mall’s Independence Day celebration has been designated a National Special Security Event (NSSE) — a status usually reserved for presidential inaugurations, the State of the Union address, major political conventions and gatherings of world leaders. The designation means the Secret Service will be in charge of coordinating the dozens of federal, state and local agencies helping secure the show. The heightened security posture comes after the feds foiled a drone attack plot targeting Trump administration officials attending the UFC Freedom 250 card on the White House South Lawn last month.  The Washington Monument is lit up as the American flag on July 2, 2026. ZUMAPRESS.com“Anything that we do, we always put security in the forefront,” the senior administration official said, noting the NSSE designation allows for more resources and assets to be deployed, as well as increased intelligence gathering. Those hoping to see the spectacle in person are encouraged to arrive at the Washington Monument grounds no earlier than 4 p.m. to minimize their time in the heat.Gates open at 5 p.m. Water and cooling stations, misting areas, shaded rest areas and additional medical personnel will be available inside and outside the event space to help spectators cope with the holiday heat wave.

Larry David's Hilarious Clash with Obama on HBO's New Series New

Larry David's Hilarious Clash with Obama on HBO's New Series

Comedian Larry David reportedly clashed at times with former President Barack Obama while the two were filming a new HBO series, with the disagreements centering on creative direction and comedic timing.According to Variety, the director of “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness”—a new HBO project produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions—said the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator was reluctant to take direction from the former president during production.“[Obama] gave a few notes about something, and Larry went, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, we got it,” Jeff Schaffer told the entertainment outlet.Schaffer said Obama responded by recalling his time in the White House.“I spent half an hour talking about how funny everything is. I give you one note, and you get into a defensive crouch,” Obama reportedly told David.Advertisement Obama then added: “When I was in the Oval Office, I took advice and listened to my advisers, and I was the president of the United States.”David reportedly gave Obama a lighthearted comedic response, saying, “Yeah, but I’m the president of this.”Schaffer went on to joke that Obama could try to invoke his executive authority on-set.“Using a presidential veto to get more money would have been amazing,” Schaffer told Variety.“I wish I’d thought of that. ‘The president needs an extra three days of shooting. He demands it.’ We should have done that,” he said.Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness is a sketch comedy miniseries that commemorates America’s 250th anniversary by satirizing people, events and moments from throughout U.S. history. The series stars Larry David and features appearances from a number of well-known actors, entertainers and public figures, including the former president, playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda and actor Jon Hamm.David and the former president have maintained a long-standing friendship leading up to the show’s release, with Obama humorously teasing the 78-year-old comedian in a promotional video for the series.“[I’ve] sat across the table from some of the world’s most difficult leaders and wrestled with some of the globe’s most intractable problems,” Obama said.He added that “nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David.”Meanwhile, the Obama Presidential Center officially opened last week with all the pageantry one would expect from a project built to memorialize America’s 44th president.Former Presidents Obama, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Joe Biden attended the dedication ceremony.Hollywood celebrities, political figures, musicians, and Democratic Party royalty filled the crowd. The event was designed to celebrate legacy, leadership, and community investment. But away from the spotlight, a very different story is still developing.According to reporting from Fox News Digital, multiple subcontractors who helped build the Obama Presidential Center say they are still fighting to recover millions of dollars they claim remain unpaid after years of work on the project. For some contractors, the dispute is not merely a business disagreement. They say it threatens the survival of their companies.Mike Owen, owner of Adamson Plumbing, told Fox News Digital that his company is nearly $4 million in the red after working on the project.“That is a hole that no subcontractor, small business can survive,” Owen said.According to the report, several contractors described years of delays, repeated design changes, costly rework, scheduling disruptions, and compensation disputes that remain unresolved even as the center opens its doors to the public. The allegations are particularly striking because the Obama Presidential Center was promoted as a model project for minority-owned businesses and local contractors. The project was presented not only as a presidential monument but as an economic engine designed to create opportunity for businesses that historically struggled to access major construction contracts.Yet some of those same businesses now claim they have been left carrying enormous financial losses as well. This article may contain commentary which reflects the author's opinion.

RFK Jr.'s Beef Tallow Push: Why It's Stirring Health Debates New

RFK Jr.'s Beef Tallow Push: Why It's Stirring Health Debates

Over the past several months, restaurants, fast food chains and major companies have said they are transitioning away from seed oils and adding beef tallow to their products instead. In February, Utz announced it was planning to launch a new line of kettle chips cooked in beef tallow under its Boulder Canyon brand, tapping "into growing consumer demand for snacks made without seed oils." Other Utz products are cooked in a blend of seed oils.Last year, the chain Steak 'n Shake announced it was removing seed oils from all fried products and buns, cooking its French fries, tots, onion rings and chicken tenders in 100% beef tallow."Our fries will now be cooked in an authentic way, 100% beef tallow, in order to achieve the highest quality and best taste," Chris Ward, chief supply chain officer for Steak 'n Shake, told Restaurant Business in a statement.Beef tallow, which is animal fat from cows that is used in cooking but also for industrial purposes like soap and candle-making, has been promoted by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who claims seed oils are one of the causes of high obesity rates in the U.S. and are linked to chronic disease.Kennedy has said Americans are being "unknowingly poisoned" by seed oils and that fast food restaurants switched from beef tallow to seed oils in their fryers because "saturated animal fats were thought to be unhealthy.""I don't have anything against fast food; I'm against food that has seed oils," he said during a "Fox & Friends" interview in late 2024.Doctors, however, say rhetoric about seed oil risks may be misleading the public about healthy eating.Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. listens during a news conference at the at the Robert F. Kennedy Department of Justice building on June 23, 2026 in Washington, DC.Anna Moneymaker/Getty ImagesDr. Amit Khera, who helps write dietary guidance at the American Heart Association, said he's concerned about consumers changing their behaviors, such as "actively consuming beef tallow when they weren't doing it before or replacing healthy oils for unhealthy sources of saturated fat."He added, "It's one thing if you don't want to do oils in general. It's different if you are actively reaching out for products that are high in saturated fats that we know can increase your cholesterol and adverse effects for cardiovascular effects."Are seed oils more beneficial?Seed oils are polyunsaturated fats extracted from plant seeds with some of the most common sources being soybean, canola, sunflower, corn, grapeseed, sesame, cottonseed and safflower.Cardiologists and nutrition specialists told ABC News there are benefits in consuming polyunsaturated fats, which may extend to seed oils."Across all of these different types of studies ... the benefits are pretty dramatic, pretty positive, pretty consistent," Dr. Darius Mozaffarian, a cardiologist and director of the Food is Medicine Institute at Tufts University, told ABC News.Mozaffarian said seed oils can help lower glucose levels, improve insulin sensitivity, reduce bad (LDL) cholesterol, reduce triglycerides and increase levels of positive (HDL) cholesterol."They're consistently linked to low risk of cardiovascular disease, lower diabetes, lower risk of dying from all causes and then, in the randomized control trials that have been done mostly with soybean oil, they also significantly reduced heart attacks," Mozaffarian said. "So, this is about as open and shut a case in nutrition as we have."Popular ReadsOpponents of seed oils claim that small amounts of the chemicals used to press the oils may be present after processing. Mozaffarian said the benefits "far, far, far outweigh any harms" from the trace amounts of chemicals. One example is hexane, which is the primary solvent that separates oil from crops. Generally only trace amounts are left over in food.Additionally, seed oils are high in omega-6 fatty acids, which some have said cause inflammation. Mozaffarian argued seed oils are not pro-inflammatory."These fats do not activate inflammation and, in fact, they seem to temper inflammation," he said.Stock photo of a person with cooking oil in their shopping basket.Theerawit Jirattawevut/STOCK PHOTO/Getty ImagesKennedy has argued that seed oils cause chronic inflammation. But blaming seed oils for the declining health of Americans ignores the broader context of America's dietary shift, according to Mozaffarian."Americans have become so sick in the last 30 years from ultra-processed foods, from the refined grains and starches, the sugar, the salt, all the additives that people are very are fed up with highly processed foods. This is another reason why seed oils get a bad rap -- people consider them highly processed because of the way they're extracted," Mozaffarian said.Is beef tallow a healthy option? Some have expressed concern on social media about what is healthier to cook with -- beef tallow or seed oils. Some restaurants that are transitioning from seed oil to beef tallow have also reported using more butter and olive oil in their cooking.Beef tallow does provide some essential fat-soluble vitamins, including A, D, E, and K. Red meat has saturated fat though, which is "probably the most harmful," Mozaffarian said. "[Beef tallow] has a certain type of saturated fat called palmitic acid, which is most strongly linked to harms."Saturated fat is linked to high cholesterol and and related conditions, such as heart disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.Stock photo of beef fat being rendered into tallow.Becheer/Adobe StockExcessive consumption of saturated fat intake has also been linked to rising levels of "bad" LDL cholesterol in your blood and increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke, according to the American Heart Association.Saturated fats can also cause weight gain, affect metabolic health and increase the risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and other health issues, according to the National Library of Medicine. Some studies have found that the source of the fat and one's overall diet matter much more than simply avoiding animal fats. A 2018 study from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health found that a higher intake of plant-based fats was linked to a lower risk of dying from any cause while a higher intake of animal-based fats was linked to a higher risk of dying."Beef tallow isn't something you actively consume to improve your health. It's just a question of, 'When you're preparing, which of two choices do you use?'" Khera said. "Are seed oils actually bad for you by themselves? It does not seem to be that way."
