Met Gala 2026: Unveiling the Theme and Surprising Host Choices
The Met Gala 2026, held on the first Monday in May, is set to spotlight its "Costume Art" theme at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year's event highlights a major renovation for the Costume Institute and an extended exhibition period.
New Exhibition Space
The newly named Condé M. Nast Galleries have been relocated to a prominent 12,000-square-foot space within the museum's Great Hall. This move allows the exhibition to remain open from May 10 to January 10, 2027, compared to previous years when shows were limited to borrowed spaces.
"Costume Art" Theme
This year's theme explores different body shapes and parts alongside clothing that covers or highlights them. Clothes will be paired with artworks from the museum to explore their relationship. The dress code, "Fashion Is Art," encourages guests to express fashion as an embodied art form.
Notable Attendees and Co-hosts
Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour will co-host the event, while Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez serve as honorary chairs. The host committee includes Anthony Vaccarello, Zoë Kravitz, Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, and more.
Page Six reports that returning regulars like Kim Kardashian and Hailey Bieber will walk the Met steps along with other stars such as Julia Garner and Gabrielle Union.
The New York Times notes that ticket prices have increased by $25,000 each this year, now costing $100,000 per ticket with tables starting at $350,000.
