Ian McKellen's Heartfelt Tribute to Patrick Stewart: A Friendship Spanning Decades New

Ian McKellen's Heartfelt Tribute to Patrick Stewart: A Friendship Spanning Decades

Updated 00:51 30 Oct 2026 GMTPublished 00:42 30 Oct 2026 GMTThe two acting legends had been friends for decades, with McKellen sharing some touching memories of his pal Sir Ian McKellen has shared a heart-breaking tribute to his long-time friend Sir Patrick Stewart following his death aged 86.The X-Men star sadly passed away on 28 October at his Los Angeles home, ‘following a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia’.A statement shared on Stewart’s Instagram page said that his wife Sunny Ozell was by his side."He has been held in the warm embrace of family and friends, surrounded by live music, prayer, tears, laughter, and the kind of profound emotion that only he could inspire after a lifetime of devotion to us all,” the statement continued.AdvertFollowing the tragic news, McKellen has shared a touching tribute to his friend. In a post on Instagram, he wrote: “Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end.Sir Ian McKellan has paid a sweet tribute to his long-time friend (David M. Benett/Dave Benett/WireImage)"You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.”The post went on to share that they first crossed paths at the Royal Shakespeare Company in the 1970s but didn’t star in any of the same productions.“My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in Star Trek,” he continued“‘But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?’ Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes (X-Men of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.“America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.”He concluded the post by adding: “His farewell performance in Avengers: Doomsday is yet to be seen.”After first meeting in the 1970s, the pair struck up a close friendship after both joining the X-Men franchise, with Stewart playing Professor Charles Xavier and McKellen taking on the role of Magneto. In 2009, they appeared on stage together in a production of Waiting for Godot and later, in 2013, No Man's Land. Their final onscreen appearance together will be in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to hit cinemas in December.

It was a true privilege to know him and to work with him,” he added. “His legacy lives on not only in decades of extraordinary work, but in the many, many people he mentored. James Acaster Makes 'Celebrity Traitors' History by Admitting Role as Traitor New

James Acaster Makes 'Celebrity Traitors' History by Admitting Role as Traitor

Updated 21:27 29 Oct 2026 GMTPublished 21:03 29 Oct 2026 GMTJames Acaster had a quite emotional exit where he admitted he was a traitor after they figured out his murder of Ross KempJames Acaster has made Celebrity Traitors history by becoming the first ever traitor to admit that he was a traitor at the roundtable, marking the second time someone has admitted to their role this series but the first time it was ever done intentionally. At an intense roundtable that saw Maya Jama and King Kenny, his fellow traitors, come under heat for the very first time, Acaster shocked the whole table and everyone watching Celebrity Traitors at home by holding his hands up and admitting that they got him. This came as they began running down the idea that one of Kenny, James, or Maya had to be involved in the murder in plain sight which killed Ross Kemp a few episodes prior. After catching him the faithfuls still celebrated, with Leigh-Anne saying 'no one saw that coming' and Maya calling it the 'hardest experience' in the castle. AdvertAcaster said that a 'weight has been lifted' (BBC)The twist appears to finally confirm what the 'bombshell revelation' revealed by a TV insider to The Sun which was said to be something that neither producers nor viewers would ever expect. One fan posted on the The Traitors Reddit simply saying: "Oh My God! I wasn't expecting that" with 100s of comments joining in with their shock at what Acaster had done. One of the most popular simply said: "Same. Wtf. Didn't think they were allowed to do that." The move does technically break the 'Traitors Oath' which James took, which promises to 'keep your identity and the identity of your fellow players a secret'. Maya and Kenny could turn on James in a shock twist (BBC)Another comment said: "Might have saved Maya somewhat cause it was going to be him or her." In the Uncloaked aftershow Nick Mohammed shared this shock, saying that he found James' admission emotional and moving.Speaking in his exit interview after the show, Acaster said of the final roundtable: "I went in thinking I've got no heat on me whatsoever, it was a surprise, but I was glad that they caught me."He became the second this season to say he was a traitor, albeit his was far less a moment of madness than Richard's, saying in his interview: "Sometimes you just say it straight after the Traitor's pick, shout it at the top of your lungs, roll the dice and see what happens there. Will the Traitors manage to take the crown? They will attempt to do it with one less amongst them (BBC/Studio Lambert/Euan Cherry)"I was really surprised by the people who still weren't convinced [that Richard was a traitor]. I think those people have got to go away and have a bit of a look at themselves, and be like, 'Why did I believe that man so much?'"Joanne, Myha’la as well. I think she was overly empathising with Richard because she was disappointed she wasn't a Traitor."Explaining his decision a bit more, Acaster said: "The idea of doing that got me through the whole experience because you feel as a Traitor sometimes, when you see people have real life reactions that are bigger than the game, you feel bad, and I would have to remind myself they don't have a game without you, literally, if no one's doing this stuff, they can't play, and they all want to play. So you are doing an important job here, so they all have something to do, and when they catch you, they'll be really happy and they'll like it, and it will feel good to just tell them and see that reaction."

și „Make it so.” Editor : B.E.

Magic Sponges Release Trillions of Microplastics Monthly, Study Reveals

See more of our coverage in your search results. Talk about a dirty little secret. A popular cleaning tool might leave your counters sparkling, but new research shows that the household staple is quietly shedding trillions of microplastics into the environment every month. Those pesky particles don’t just disappear. They seep into the food you eat, the water you drink and the air you breathe. Eventually, they wind up in your body, too — and early evidence suggests they could be doing serious damage once they get there.Microplastics are tiny particles less than 5 millimeters in size that break off from larger plastic items and industrial waste over time. Pcess609 – stock.adobe.comBehind the magicScientists from the American Chemical Society took a closer look at so-called “magic” sponges, popular for their ability to remove grit and grime using water alone. Their scrubbing power comes from melamine foam, a lightweight yet durable plastic that acts like ultra-fine sandpaper to gently scrape away dirt and stains from surfaces. But with every use, the sponges gradually breaks down, shedding tiny fibers called microplastics in their wake. To get a sense of how much plastic is being released, researchers tested sponges from three popular brands by rubbing them against textured metal to mimic everyday wear and tear. What they found was far from squeaky clean: A single sponge shed around 6.5 million microplastic fibers per gram of worn-down material.Melamine sponges work without the need for a chemical cleaning agent. MariiaDemchenko – stock.adobe.comFrom there, the team turned to Amazon sales data from August 2023. Assuming the average sponge is worn down by about 10% through regular use, they estimated that 1.55 trillion microplastic fibers could be leached into the environment every month. And that’s just from one online retailer — meaning the true number of plastic particles being released by “magic” sponges could be much higher.Tiny particles, big troubleOnce unleashed into nature, microplastics don’t just pollute the planet. They find their way inside our bodies. These sneaky specks been found in human lungs, livers, kidneys, hearts, brains, placentas and testicles, even breast milk and semen.Scientists are still figuring out exactly how this affects our health, but early results aren’t encouraging. In January, a major scientific review found that exposure to microplastics may pose risks to the human digestive, reproductive and respiratory systems.Research suggests that these particles can damage cells, disrupt organs and mess with the immune system. They’ve also been linked to an increased risk of heart attack, stroke and certain cancers.Magic erasers shed microplastic fibers as they wear down. JackF – stock.adobe.comMicroplastics may even harm the brain, potentially causing symptoms like fatigue and dizziness. Higher levels have been found in people with dementia. It’s a huge problem for something so tiny — and a costly one too. One study found microplastics carrying “forever chemicals” in the US food and water supply could be fueling a $250 billion-a-year health crisis.Scrub smarterTo cut down on microplastics, researchers from the American Chemical Society are urging manufacturers to make denser, tougher sponges that don’t break down so easily. They also suggest consumers opt for natural cleaning products without plastics and install filters to catch microplastics in their drinking water. To lower your overall exposure, experts recommend cutting back on single-use plastic bags, bottles, straws and containers. Choosing clothes made from natural fibers instead of synthetics and avoiding microwaving food or drinks in plastic can also help reduce your risk.Still worried about those tiny troublemakers? Special washing machine filters can trap microplastics from your laundry before they hit the environment, and new blood-filtration treatments might even help flush them from your body.
