Lyn May says supposed collagen injections contained cooking oil and baby oil

Updated 14:22 16 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 11:34 16 Oct 2026 GMT+1Actor Lyn May believed that she was having fillers, but was actually being injected with cooking oil and baby oilAn actor who suffered facial disfigurement after bad cosmetic procedures has warned others about the risks.Lilia Guadalupe Mendiola, whose stage name is Lyn May, was known for her stunning good looks in the 1970s and 1980s.She began her career as an exotic dancer in cabaret, before breaking into Mexican cinema in movies such as Tívoli in 1974, Carnival Nights in 1978, and The Loving Ones in 1979.Her captivating beauty helped her in becoming a star, but things would go horribly wrong for May, who is now 75, after she decided to undergo a cosmetic procedure,AdvertIn the 90s May was considering having some cosmetic procedures, and claimed that a 'jealous' friend persuaded her into this despite her beauty.Ultimately, this led to her getting unregulated fillers, with disastrous consequences.Lyn May believed she was receiving collagen injections (instagram/lyn_may_)May was convinced by a scammer to have the unregulated filler injections, being told that she was being injected with the proper medical fillers, according to OkChicas, believing this would give her a younger appearance. But while they had promised it would help to maintain her appearance, in reality May had been injected with a mixture of baby oil, cooking oil, and water. This didn't affect her at first, and everything seemed alright, but as time passed she began to get hard lumps and abscesses in her face as the horrid mixture she had been injected with began to deteriorate.Eventually her face was completely changed from how it was when she was younger, leaving her with a life-changing disfigurement.Since then, May has also undergone further procedures in an attempt to mitigate the damage which was done to her.May still performs (instagram/lyn_may_)However, a surgeon was able to only remove a fraction of the mixture of oil that she was injected with, leaving her stuck with the change to her appearance. It has since been reported that she is working alongside a 'legitimate doctor' in the hope that they are able to help her to 'reverse some of the effects of what happened to her'.Images of May have also gone viral on social media as many people shared their anger and disbelief that someone would trick her into such an appalling situation, The Sun reported. One person posted: "Omg it's awful that her 'friend' did this to her. What a horrible thing to do to someone."Another reflected on her friend, writing: "I hope her 'friend' is in jail. Who needs haters when you have friends?"Many agreed with this, with one person writing: "Omg it's awful that her 'friend' did this to her. What a horrible thing to do to someone."Others were left upset by just how much it had affected her, with one writing: "She was so beautiful wtf," while another wrote: "She was pretty before all that, how sad."Featured Image Credit: instagram/lyn_may_Topics: World News, Health, News

US Producer Prices Post Biggest Monthly Rise Since 2022 Before Midterms New

US Producer Prices Post Biggest Monthly Rise Since 2022 Before Midterms

President Donald Trump suffered a second inflation setback in as many days on Thursday after a closely watched key economic indicator recorded its largest monthly increase in more than four years. The Producer Price Index—what producers collect for making goods and services—rose 1.3 percent in September, accelerating from 0.5 percent in August and 0.2 percent in July, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said. It was the largest monthly increase since March 2022. Producer prices were also 6.3 percent higher than a year earlier, the fastest annual increase since December 2022.The report followed Wednesday's Consumer Price Index, which showed prices paid by consumers increasing 0.6 percent during September and 3.7 percent from a year earlier. Taken together, experts said the reports show that inflationary pressure is reaching businesses and households. That could create a difficult political message for Trump and congressional Republicans less than three weeks before the November 3 midterm elections.“These two reports together are a warning that inflation is still working its way through the economy,” Michael Ryan, a finance expert and the founder of MichaelRyanMoney.com, told Newsweek. “Consumers are already feeling it. And businesses are facing cost pressures that could mean more price increases ahead.”...Why It MattersThe economy and cost of living are dominating voters' concerns ahead of the midterms.A Pew Research Center survey conducted September 28-October 4 found that 84 percent of registered voters considered the economy very important to their vote, making it the leading issue among supporters of both major parties. An AP-NORC survey released on Thursday similarly found that 85 percent of voters viewed the economy as one of the election's most important issues, while 84 percent said the same about the cost of living. The poll also found that 36 percent approved of Trump's overall job performance and 64 percent disapproved. The latest Fox News poll found that six in 10 registered voters considered the cost of living the country's most important economic issue. Seventy-four percent rated the economy negatively, 55 percent said inflation was "not at all" under control and only 22 percent approved of Trump's handling of inflation. What to KnowWhen Trump's second term began in January 2025, annual consumer inflation stood at 3 percent. It reached 3.7 percent in September of this year. However, the CPI and PPI measure different parts of the economy. The CPI tracks the average change in prices paid by urban consumers for a basket of goods and services, while the PPI measures changes in the prices domestic producers receive for their output, including goods and services sold before they reach consumers. “The jump in wholesale prices is a massive problem for many Americans, as it only adds pricing pressure to already-high costs,” Alex Beene, a financial literacy instructor for the University of Tennessee at Martin, told Newsweek. “As diesel costs rise dramatically, those transportation costs get passed on [to] the consumer, and the result in Americans are paying more for everyday items.”In simple terms, CPI shows what households are already paying, while PPI can provide an earlier indication of cost pressure building among manufacturers, wholesalers and other businesses.Businesses do not automatically pass every cost increase on to customers. They may absorb some of the additional expense through lower profit margins or negotiate with their supplies. However, sustained increases in fuel, transportation, materials and wholesale costs can eventually appear in consumer prices. The September increase was heavily influenced by energy, but it was not limited to that category.Prices for final-demand goods (those sold to their ultimate user, like the consumer) jumped 2.6 percent, the largest increase since the series began in December 2009. More than 80 percent of that rise came from energy prices, which increased 10.8 percent. Meanwhile final-demand food prices rose 1.2 percent, while goods excluding food and energy increased 0.3 percent. The report's measure excluding food, energy and trade services rose 0.5 percent in September and 5 percent year-over-year, which indicates that the jump was not solely defined by energy, as costs in that sector have jumped since the start of the war with Iran on February 28.What Do CPI and PPI Together Imply? The reports show that inflation is affecting consumers now while higher costs continue to move through production and distribution networks.Wednesday's CPI release found that energy prices rose 5.2 percent in September and were 20.4 percent higher than a year earlier. Gasoline prices increased 9.1 percent for the month and accounted for more than half of the headline CPI increase. The PPI then showed even greater pressure earlier in the supply chain. Producer energy prices jumped 10.8 percent during September, gasoline increased 20.3 percent, and diesel fuel, jet fuel, residential electricity and crude oil also rose. “This report is saying what many economists suggested would happen once the tariff regime began,” Kevin Thompson, the CEO of 9i Capital Group and the host of the 9innings podcast, told Newsweek. “Although gasoline accounted for approximately half of the increase in goods prices, other parts of the economy, such as services and warehousing, are also seeing price increases that exceeded expectations.”Food presents another warning sign. Consumer food prices were flat during September, but producer food prices increased 1.2 percent. Fresh and dry vegetables were among the categories recording producer-level increases. “CPI did not show a significant jump in food prices, but the PPI is telling another story," Thompson said. "At the consumer level, food prices are relatively stable, but at the producer level, prices are accelerating. This could lead to higher costs moving through the supply chain and eventually being passed along to the end consumer.”Experts say that PPI is not a direct forecast of CPI, and a 1.3 percent monthly rise in producer prices does not mean consumer prices will increase by the same amount. The reports nevertheless indicate that the pressures affecting household budgets have not yet fully disappeared upstream. When Could Prices Rise? The timing of when and how producers’ high costs affect consumers depends on the businesses' specific contracts and inventories.Fuel prices can reach consumers quickly at gas stations and through airline tickets, but higher freight and material expenses may filter through more gradually as businesses replenish inventories and renegotiate supply agreements. The strongest immediate risks appear to be in sectors closely tied to energy and transportation.Processed energy goods used by businesses increased 10.2 percent in September. Unprocessed energy materials rose 22.2 percent, including a 28.3 percent jump in crude petroleum. Diesel fuel prices rose 21 percent at the processed intermediate-demand level. “Gas prices can change almost immediately,” Ryan said. “Groceries, deliveries and other goods could become more expensive over the coming weeks or months if those higher costs stick around. Energy drove much of September's increase, but the underlying producer inflation numbers suggest the pressure goes beyond gasoline.”Higher inflation could also affect consumers indirectly by complicating the Federal Reserve's interest-rate decisions. Following Wednesday's CPI release, traders increased expectations that the central bank could raise interest rates again. That would keep borrowing costs elevated for mortgages, credit cards and auto loans.“The political problem for Trump is pretty straightforward,” Ryan said. “He promised Americans lower prices. Instead, they're seeing inflation accelerate just weeks before the midterms.”What Sectors Will Be Hit Hardest?Gasoline and dieselGasoline was the largest driver in both reports. Consumer gasoline prices rose 9.1 percent in September, while producer gasoline prices surged 20.3 percent. Diesel fuel also rose sharply at the producer and intermediate-demand levels.Transportation and deliveryProducer prices for transportation and warehousing services increased 3.4 percent. These increases could affect retailers and other businesses that rely heavily on delivery networks, but it’s not yet clear how much of the cost will ultimately be passed on to consumers.Groceries and restaurantsProducer food prices rose 1.2 percent even as consumer food prices were unchanged for the month. Fresh and dry vegetables and food and alcohol wholesaling were among the areas recording increases. Food retailing margins also rose. That does not guarantee an immediate rise in grocery prices, but retailers and food businesses could face stronger cost pressure in the months ahead.“Trump campaigned on lowering prices and taming inflation, but the economy is seeing quite the opposite at this time,” Thompson said. “Many of his policies, particularly tariffs, have been inflationary in nature. History has shown us the economic consequences of protectionist policies.…The political problem is that consumers were promised lower prices, yet many are continuing to experience higher costs across the economy.”Electricity and travelResidential electricity, jet fuel, airline passenger services and traveler accommodations all registered producer-price increases. The consumer report also showed airline fares and household energy costs under pressure. One notable exception was eggs: Producer prices for chicken eggs plunged 39.7 percent in September. Raw milk and slaughter-chicken prices also declined at earlier stages of production. What Happens NextThe September reports will likely intensify scrutiny of Trump's economic record through the final weeks of the midterm campaign. For Trump and Republicans, the risk is that voters will judge the economy less by overall growth or financial-market performance and more by the actual prices they encounter at gas stations and grocery stores.“This creates a real issue for those seeking reelection during the midterms, as many who are growing increasingly angry at rising costs could take those concerns out on lawmakers currently in power,” Beene said.Newsweek’s reporters and editors used Martyn, our AI assistant, to produce this story. Trump touts CECOT, but cannot legally deport US citizens there

Updated 20:50 15 Oct 2026 GMT+1Published 14:52 5 Feb 2025 GMTInmates have said they were told 'the only way you leave here is dead' as they went inDonald Trump has claimed that crime rates in the US are falling because they are sending 'killers, drug dealers and thugs' to a mega-prison in El Salvador. He made the claim on his Truth Social account recently as he posted a video of prisoners being forced into the Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo (CECOT), declaring: "This is why murder and other crimes in America are at record lows."The prison opened in 2023 under El Salvadorean president Nayib Bukele’s administration and has been used to incarcerate thousands of people, while the country claims that they could take up to 40,000 inmates. In El Salvador the prison has been used to keep those suspected of gang activity under lock and key, and Trump has deported people from the US to CECOT in the past.AdvertTrump's post suggests he wants to send more people to the prison, where conditions are described as 'inhumane'.The conditions in CECOT have been described as 'inhumane' (Alex Peña/Getty Images)Inside the prison is a security team who monitor inmates 24/7, and with 19 towers surrounding the compound, it's protected by two concrete walls and two electrified fences.Although the United Nations Subcommittee for the Prevention of Torture Miguel Sarre once described it as a 'concrete and steel pit', it seems the Trump administration are in favour of CECOT.Prisoners have to follow a strict set of rules as they have to stay within their cells for 23.5 hours a day and they keep the lights on at all times so they don't know how much time has passed. Many prisoners are kept in a cell together where the temperature can rise to 35C, and they sleep on mattresses of bare metal.Prisoners also aren't given utensils to eat with, so they have to eat with their bare hands.El Salvador says they have 20,000 prisoners in CECOT and they have space for 40,000 (Alex Peña/Getty Images)It's not the first time the question of US citizens being sent to CECOT has been raised, as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously announced 'the most unprecedented, extraordinary, migratory agreement anywhere in the world'.Bukele had said he was happy to take in people deported from the US, regardless of their nationality, which would include US citizens."We can send them and he will put them in his jails," Rubio explained at the time."He [Bukele] has also offered to do the same for dangerous criminals currently in custody and serving their sentences in the United States even though they're US citizens or legal residents."However, it is still the case now as it was then that Trump cannot legally deport US citizens and incarcerate them in another country, though the question remains what a court could do to stop him if he just did it anyway, as they told him he couldn't deport Venezuelans to CECOT and it still happened.Featured Image Credit: Alex Peña/Getty ImagesTopics: Crime, World News, US News, Politics

Soc. Coop. Chick-fil-A CEO Welcomes All Customers but Gives No Direct LGBTQ Rights Position

See more of our coverage in your search results. NBC’s “Today” co-anchor Craig Melvin pressed Chick-fil-A CEO Andrew Cathy Wednesday about the fast-food chain’s position on LGBTQ rights, repeatedly questioning the company’s Christian beliefs and past opposition to same-sex marriage during a segment highlighting its history and business success. When Melvin asked for Chick-fil-A’s official position on equal rights, Cathy emphasized the company’s commitment to serving customers rather than directly addressing its position on LGBTQ issues.“We’re focused on hospitality, serving great-tasting food and great service,” Cathy said. The exchange came after Melvin revisited the company’s 2012 controversy, when Cathy’s father, former CEO Dan Cathy, publicly supported traditional marriage, triggering protests and boycotts. The company faced criticism over charitable donations to Christian organizations accused of opposing LGBTQ rights.NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck criticized NBC’s handling of the interview in comments to Fox News Digital, accusing the network of deliberately emphasizing the controversy.Chick-fil-A CEO Andrew Cathy told NBC’s “Today” that the chain is focused on “hospitality” when asked about its stance on LGBTQ rights. NBC News“While it was only just over 90 seconds of a roughly six-minute block, its mention and prominence after its airing on the ‘Today’ social media platforms was proof this was wholly intended to be an ambush,” Houck said.“Never mind the company’s remarkably courteous staff who serve everyone no matter whom they love. That alone is never enough. NBC should be ashamed of itself.“It’s incredibly disappointing that Melvin dwelt on it for that much of the package, as he, like the Cathy family, is a fellow believer in Christ. Just before the haggling, he praised Chick-fil-A for how much their faith has guided them, from their humble beginnings to its status as the third-largest fast-food chain in America.”Demonstrators protest outside a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Hollywood, California, in 2012. Getty ImagesMelvin asked Cathy how he would respond to people who previously protested Chick-fil-A over accusations that the company did not support the LGBTQ community.Cathy responded by emphasizing that customers were welcome at the restaurant chain regardless of their backgrounds.“Everybody that’s willing to walk in the door, they’re welcome to come eat with us. We would love to give them a great-tasting sandwich and great hospitality,” Cathy said.Melvin subsequently pressed Cathy about whether he wanted to discuss that chapter of the company’s history before asking directly about its position on equal rights. The company has faced criticism over past donations to Christian organizations accused of opposing LGBTQ rights. USA TODAY Network via Reuters ConnectThe exchange also drew criticism from former “Today” anchor Katie Couric, who commented on the show’s Instagram post about the interview.“A non answer answer,” she said. “This is what his father Dan Cathy said in 2012. ‘We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition.’ A good follow-up would have been: ‘Do you agree with your father?'”Chick-fil-A’s religious foundation has remained central to its corporate identity despite past controversies. During Wednesday’s interview, Cathy reaffirmed the company’s longstanding practice of closing on Sundays and described its Christian mission as an anchor. In 2019, Fox News Digital reported that Chick-fil-A would stop donating to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Salvation Army after criticism of the organizations’ positions on LGBTQ issues. The company redirected its charitable giving toward education, homelessness and hunger initiatives.Chick-fil-A’s current corporate policies prohibit employment discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. The company’s official corporate purpose continues to emphasize glorifying God and positively influencing those who interact with the business.
