Elon Musk's Wealth Sparks Heated Debate Over Tax Proposals New

Elon Musk's Wealth Sparks Heated Debate Over Tax Proposals

(Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)Greetings, Dear Reader,I suppose by now you’ve heard that Mayor Mamdani’s picks all won their primaries for US congressional seats in NYC districts? What does it all mean?Well, it’s not very complicated. Before we get started, check out our new merch below. Our newest merch collection celebrates America’s 250th with bold, comfortable designs made for July 4 and beyond.🇺🇸 Everyday wear with a purpose🇺🇸 Timeless designs🇺🇸 Patriotic pieces made to get noticedCelebrate America’s 250th the right way.Shop the Drop →Today’s newsletter continues belowThe biggest lie blanketing western politics today is that the problems facing normal people are complicated and require complicated solutions.I’ve covered this idea already, so I won’t belabor it. In short: The solutions are not complicated.Landing a rocket on a moving barge out at sea, that’s complicated. So is beaming cheap internet from orbit, or even as I believe will happen at some point, cheap energy for everyone’s home. Likewise, designing the first consumer humanoid robot is complicated.Solving those problems in a way that is accessible to nearly everyone would certainly make a man rich. On June 12, they made Elon Musk the world’s first trillionaire when SpaceX went public. The reaction from the far left was instantaneous: Take Musk’s wealth and give it to (our friends who will then take their cut and give a miniscule, failing service, if any service at all, to) the poor.California Rep. Ro Khanna went 20 rounds with various online detractors when he suggested a wealth tax on Musk. Massachusetts Sen. Liz Warren, as well, suggested an “ultra-millionaires” tax.Warren suggested taking Musk’s wealth to provide “free child care” for “all three and four year olds,” seemingly unaware or unwilling to acknowledge the various “learning centers” bilking such programs of billions. She also suggested more “free” college.Do we really need free college? Haven’t we learned that “free” college can get us in a lot of debt trouble? In any case, this new war on the (point-)One Percent birthed a funny trend online. It can be summed up in one question: What’d Elon Musk ever do to me?“It’s not the top 2% causing the deodorant to be locked behind glass at the supermarket,” one commenter noted. “It’s not Elon Musk stealing packages from your doorstep.”“Who’s robbing the stores? Who’s spraying graffiti over nice buildings? Who’s stabbing people pretty much daily now? Who’s stealing bikes? Who’s leaving garbage all over? Who’s shitting under the bridge? Not the billionaires,” another commented.“It isn’t trillionaires behind me on the train listening to music with no headphones,” said another. Finally, this old tweet got screencapped and started going viral everywhere. It says:Maybe the most important thing you learn by attending public school is that we are all at the mercy of the bottom quintile. The rules you follow in life will be based on the behavior of the bottom quintile, the taxes you pay are to support the bottom quintile, the greatest risks to your life and property will come from the bottom quintile, the dearth of comfortable public spaces is because you have to allow the bottom quintile to be there, our zoning laws are developed for fear of the bottom quintile. There’s a connection to all of this, Dear Reader. Trillionaires, the rise of socialism in the Democratic Party, persistent social plagues and the dregs of society demanding ever more handouts. There’s an opportunistic class of second- and third-quintile midwits serving as the intellectual vanguard for an explosion of neo marxism. They convince the bottom quintile that their problems could be solved by simply taking wealth and redistributing it. This vanguard has no actual interest in solving the problems. It’s the problems themselves that give them the opportunity for power.New York City is no longer an American city. It’s Palestine with more poop on the streets and aggravated assaults on the subway trains. If you want to clean up crime, it’s simple: arrest and imprison the criminals. You want fewer Islamic radicals on campus? Stop allowing student visas from radical Muslim countries. You want to lower housing costs and increase inventory? Deport 30 million people, revoke 20 million (fraudulent) visas, and give sweeping tax abatements to single-family home developers. You want fewer stupid college graduates with insurmountable debt? End “free” college entirely. It’s not the point-one percent driving the woes of the average American. It’s the bottom one percent and the elite midwit class that’s leading them. It’s the self-preservation instincts of mediocre people in the permanent bureaucracy and the midwits who keep them paid and employed all with other people’s money. Why’s Mississippi surging to the top of the stack when it comes to public school student literacy rates? Teachers unions in Mississippi initially opposed the changes that brought about the explosion of literacy. Too bad the state is “right to work” and unions basically amount to neutered lefty sob circles.Turns out teaching kids to read doesn’t require a new “ultra-millionaire” tax.The primary divide in America today is not left or right. It’s takers versus makers. It’s the productive, honest classes in the top four quintiles versus the violent, entitled dregs, the calcified bureaucracy that “provides services,” and the socialist pied pipers leading all of them toward that inexorable hole in the wall. What that hole in the wall ultimately looks like, well, keep your eyes on NYC.ROOKE: GOP Voters Dumped Cornyn. Alannah Keyser's Dad Speaks Out Amid Racism Allegations on 'Love Island USA' New

Alannah Keyser's Dad Speaks Out Amid Racism Allegations on 'Love Island USA'

Alannah Keyser’s father has fired back at accusations of racism after an old video of the Love Island USA newcomer resurfaced online. Stephane Keyser rushed to his daughter’s defense in an interview with TMZ published on Monday, June 22, just as Alannah, 21, was settling into Casa Amor and building a connection with Zach Georgiou. Alannah’s dad described her as an “educated sweetheart” and noted that their family has always had friends from different backgrounds, making the hate she is facing ridiculous to him. The season 8 Casa Amor bombshell has been at the center of controversy after a video came to light, appearing to show her saying the N-word while lip-syncing to a song. It has not been verified whether Alannah is the person seen in the video. Another screenshot also appeared to show her using the racial slur in an Instagram comment. Us Weekly has reached out to Peacock for comment. Meanwhile, Love Island viewers also pointed out that she seemingly kept her distance from KC Chandler, Corbin Mims and Sincere Rhea while packing on PDA with other contestants. One social media user claimed, “She was making out with Caleb, Bryce, and Zach, but KC, Corbin, and Sincere only get a twerk from a distance? and then she got mad when KC touched her.” Amid the backlash, Alannah’s friend Nick Rogers also spoke out in her defense. “She is very caring and the nicest person ever. She has never exhibited any racist traits around me at all,” Nick said while addressing the accusations via TikTok on Monday, June 22. “I have never once considered the fact that Alannah would be someone who’d be racist.” Nick claimed screenshots on Snapchat that have since been making their rounds are “fake,” adding, “I just can’t imagine, me knowing Alannah, her posting that on social media. And we all know with this AI and everything like that, it could be very easy for these types of scenarios to be manipulated.” “I looked at the video myself, and I cannot tell whether she is saying the N-word or not,” he continued. “That is a very touchy subject that I know … has been a big conversation over the years and obviously I do agree that it is very inappropriate for someone who is not a person of color or Black to use that word.”

Reese Witherspoon and Son Deacon Turn Heads at 'Elle' Premiere New

Reese Witherspoon and Son Deacon Turn Heads at 'Elle' Premiere

Reese Witherspoon made the world premiere of Elle a family affair! The Oscar winner, 50, was joined by her son, Deacon Phillippe, on the red carpet Tuesday, June 23, at the New York City premiere of her new Legally Blonde prequel series. Witherspoon, who shares son Deacon, 22, and daughter Ava, 26, with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe, stunned in a pink gown with lace floral detailing. Deacon looked suave in a black suit and matched his mom with a pink tie. Deacon has followed his mom and dad’s acting footsteps, even starring alongside Ryan, 51, in the coming-of-age drama Motorheads, which aired on Amazon Prime Video in 2025. “It’s so unique to be in a situation like this where you’re both working on a show with really good people,” Ryan exclusively told Us Weekly in May 2025. “It definitely wasn’t lost on either of us.” “There were times when we would look at each other and just be like, ‘Can you believe that we’re actually doing this?'” he added. Costar Nathalie Kelly told Us, “[Deacon is] the most charismatic, polite, thoughtful young man I have ever met.” “I’m like, wow! If this is what the new generation of men are coming out, looking like, sounding like, acting like, then I feel more at ease about the future of our species,” she continued. “Honestly, what an incredible young man.” “I think it was [Deacon’s] first major acting role, and super sweet to see the father-son dynamic and how proud Ryan was,” Kelley added. “Ryan was trying to navigate how much to interfere and how much to let him be in his own process. I learned a lot from having my own kids on the show, from observing Ryan as a father and just realizing, like, how beautiful that the cycle of life is.” Witherspoon and Phillippe first began dating in 1997, before costarring in Cruel Intentions. They got married in 1999, but announced their separation in 2006. Their divorce was finalized a year later. Despite ending things, a source exclusively told Us in April that the former couple remains close. In fact, they both attended Deacon’s graduation from New York University last month. “She is very close to Ryan,” the insider said. “They have been coparenting through the years, and they are friends.” “Since her divorce from Ryan, she has been supportive of her kids going into the entertainment industry,” the source added. “Anything they want to do, they are both supportive.” Witherspoon serves as an executive producer on Elle, which follows her Legally Blonde character, Elle Woods, during her high school years. The series is set to premiere on Prime Video on July 1.

Josh Hokit Faces Backlash After Controversial Comment on Michelle Obama New

Josh Hokit Faces Backlash After Controversial Comment on Michelle Obama

Josh Hokit defended his comment about calling Michelle Obama a “man.” “I thought I was giving her a compliment,” the UFC fighter, 28, said during a Tuesday, June 23, appearance on sport journalist Ariel Helwani’s eponymous show. Earlier this month, Hokit participated in UFC Freedom 250 event. After defeating Derrick Lewis, Hokit made a controversial remark about the former first lady in a post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. “Michelle Obama is a man,” Hokit said at the time. “Am I right, America?” Hokit received backlash for the comment but argued on Tuesday that it was meant to be endearing. “Michelle Obama being a man. It’s like, she knows how to deal with adversity,” he said. “She knows how to work hard like a man when the times get tough.” Helwani, 43, then asked Hokit why the thought popped into his mind during his interview. “I thought it was a perfect opportunity to show the world how great this country is with freedom of speech,” he explained to Helwani. “You go somewhere [else in the world] and you say something like that and you die. And I’m not suicidal by the way. I’m in good spirits. I’m a little under the weather right now but other than that, I’m good. And so in other parts of the world, you say something like that and you’re not here to speak to Ariel Helwani, you know. So yeah, I don’t know; there are a few ways. There's a few answers to that. There’s a certain side that pokes at another side and there’s no outrage there and so I thought it was a perfect time to take a jab.” When asked if he regretted the comment about Obama, Hokit stood 10 toes down. “Never,” he said. “That’s one thing about my career. … You’ll never hear me backtrack from what I say.” After Hokit’s remarks got the attention of the American people, the White House responded to the controversy. Spokesman Steven Cheung called Hokit’s match a “great win” and applauded his performance. “He showed toughness and the ability to pressure his opponent both on his feet and on the ground,” Cheung told CNN’s Jake Tapper in June. However, UFC CEO Dana White had a different reaction to Hokit’s comment. “I understand that the Obamas [sic] are public figures but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families,” White, 56, said in a text message to Time magazine. “Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense.” Obama, for her part, has not publicly addressed Hokit’s comment. Us Weekly previously reached out to Obama’s spokesperson for comment but did not hear back.

"["Love Story"] was a very special request from a very special tight end," Swift told fans, per social media footage captured by a USA Today reporter. "He wanted to hear this particular song and that tight end ... is named George Kittle." TEU was founded by Kelce, 36, and fellow NFL stars Kittle, 32, and Greg Olsen in 2021. The annual three-day program is dedicated to helping tight ends "bond, collaborate with, and learn among their peers.” TEU also raises money for organizations selected by its founders. Swift and Kelce were photographed with Kittle and Olsen, 41, at a party ahead of the 2026 TEU season on Monday, June 22. The pop star sported a yellow floral jacquard mini dress from Simkhai and matching Aquazzura stilettos for the occasion, while the Kansas City Chiefs tight end opted for a white and red polo, tan shorts and dark brown loafers. “TEU Yearbook cover worthy ✨,” the organization captioned the photo via Instagram on Monday. Kittle’s wife, Claire, and Olsen’s daughter, Talbot, were also featured in the snap. Swift’s performance at TEU 2026 marked her second year participating in the “Tight Ends & Friends” concert. Last year, she hit the stage to sing her 2014 hit “Shake It Off.” “We would like to dedicate this to our favorite players who are going to play, and these are the tight ends,” Swift said before her performance at the time. This year’s TEU summit is likely to be Swift and Kelce’s last as an engaged couple, as the two are expected to tie the knot later this summer. While the location and date of the nuptials are not yet confirmed, rumors have swirled that the couple plans to wed at Madison Square Garden in New York City over the July 4 holiday weekend. Last week, Travis celebrated what fans speculated was his bachelor party with brother Jason Kelce, teammate Ross Travis, comedian Druski and others at invite-only hotspot Bird Streets Club on Wednesday, June 17. The group was also spotted at a Dave Chappelle comedy show and a Chris Lake concert. Meanwhile, a small group of women was spotted arriving at Swift’s mansion in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, including the singer’s close friend Abigail Anderson Berard and her toddler. NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani fueled speculation that the couple’s wedding would take place in the city during a June 15 press conference. “I am fully confident in the work of the NYPD, as well as our state partners, in delivering that safe experience,” he told reporters. “We are the biggest city in the country. We are used to big events, and we are incredibly excited for the [World Cup]. We know it coincides with the Knicks’ [NBA] Finals run. We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding — all happening at the same time — and we are so excited to welcome the world here.”
