Tennessee pauses executions after Christa Pike survives lethal injection attempt New

Tennessee pauses executions after Christa Pike survives lethal injection attempt

Published 16:24 8 Oct 2026 GMT+1Pike's death sentence was carried out after her legal team exhausted every appeal they could, but Pike is still aliveAfter 30 years on death row, when Christa Pike's sentence of execution was carried out, she survived, leaving what comes next for the convicted killer uncertain.Pike had been sentenced to death by lethal injection for the murder of Colleen Slemmer, with the original sentence passed when she was still a teenager being to the electric chair. When Pike's execution was attempted after decades of legal wrangling and appeals it was using the lethal injection, but despite receiving two doses of pentobarbital Pike is still alive and, in a surreal development given her intended fate, receiving treatment in hospital. There she is reportedly now able to speak and to walk again, though in an inhibited manner.AdvertTennessee governor Bill Lee, who denied Pike's plea for mercy, has now paused death sentences in the state after Pike's became the second botched execution in the state in a year. While Lee has ordered an investigation into state executions in Tennessee, the question now looms of what is now to become of Pike, who is now in the bizarre grey area of what happens when someone survives their death sentence. There are three options which may be the course of action selected for Pike's case, the BBC reports.Execution using a different methodOther prisoners who have survived executions (LADbible/Tennessee/Idaho/Alabama/Ohio Department of Correction)Tennessee could make another attempt to execute Pike using a different method from the lethal injection. However, Tennessee-based defence attorney Stephen Ross Johnson told the BBC that this could present additional legal challenges to those seeking out this conclusion.Trying to execute Pike using a different method would likely require approval from the governor's office and even the state legislature, he said. Some politicians in Tennessee are already calling for Pike's execution to be attempted via other means, with Congressman Tim Burchett sharing on social media that he has filed a bill to 'bring back hanging' while Senator Marsha Blackburn said to 'bring back the electric chair'.Pike committed the murder in 1995 before Tennessee changed the law around execution, and was originally sentenced to the electric chair, which could provide a potential lead for people calling for this method. However, Pike would also need to waive her legal right to die by lethal injection, and given that it's not clear if she is legally capable of doing that after the previous attempt, this could bar using a different method.Try to execute Pike using lethal injection againChrista Pike is still alive, having survived her lethal injection (Tennessee Department of Corrections)This is another option available to the Tennessee Department of Correction, but also presents a lot of challenges, Johnson said."For the state to attempt to execute her again using the same methodology, they would have severe legal hurdles," said Johnson.Pike's execution is the second botched execution in one year, which Johnson said could create an opportunity for lawyers to challenge the legality of and the practice of how the state administers lethal injection. There is also the element of 'cruel and unusual punishment', which may apply due to Pike having small veins and thrombocytosis, which complicates administering the injection. Her medical condition combined with the botched attempt could make a strong legal case against attempting again to execute Pike by lethal injection.Commute Pike's sentenceChrista Pike, pictured in 1995 (WBIR10)Owing to the current pause on executions in the state after Pike's execution was botched, it is unlikely that the case is going to be making significant movement towards a further execution anytime soon."At a minimum there's going to be some significant delay while this issue is studied by the state", said Johnson.A combination of bad press from the botched execution as well as the complications from Pike's health, and whether all procedures were properly followed during the attempted execution, could make commuting her sentence a desirable option. And there is also a precedent for this in US law as well, as Alabama death row prisoner Doyle Hamm was cancelled after executioners spent over two hours trying to find a vein.In the end, his sentence was commuted, and he died of natural causes.READ MORE: All of the failed lethal injection executions in the last decadeFeatured Image Credit: TDOCTopics: US News, Crime, Death Row

10 Everyday Reactions That May Signal Emotional Overload New

10 Everyday Reactions That May Signal Emotional Overload

1. Small decisions suddenly feel unusually exhaustingChoosing what to eat, wear or answer first can feel strangely difficult when your mental bandwidth is stretched. The problem is not necessarily the decision itself; it may be the dozens of unfinished thoughts competing behind it. Reduce unnecessary choices for a while. Repeat simple meals, prepare clothes the night before or make a short priority list. Creating structure is not laziness—it can preserve attention for decisions that genuinely need it.2. Minor interruptions trigger surprisingly strong irritationA notification, a repeated question or someone moving slowly may provoke more anger than the moment seems to deserve. This often happens when you already feel crowded internally, leaving little room for one more demand. Instead of judging the reaction, treat it as information. Pause before responding, lower avoidable stimulation and ask what pressure has been building. The interruption may be small, but your accumulated strain may not be.3. Rest happens, but restoration never arrivesYou may spend an evening on the sofa and still wake up feeling depleted. Passive downtime is not always restorative, especially if your mind remains occupied by work, conflict or constant scrolling. Consider what kind of rest is actually missing: physical stillness, emotional safety, mental quiet or time without social demands. A short walk without your phone or an honest conversation may replenish you more effectively than hours of distracted inactivity.4. You withdraw from people who usually feel safeWhen even kind messages feel like obligations, isolation can seem easier than explaining yourself. Temporary solitude can be healthy, but repeatedly avoiding supportive people may remove an important source of relief. Try a low-pressure form of connection instead of disappearing completely. You might send, “I’m stretched thin and slow to reply, but I appreciate you.” This protects the relationship without forcing you to perform energy or cheerfulness you do not currently have.5. Simple choices require long, defensive explanationsEmotional overload can make ordinary boundaries feel as though they need a courtroom argument. You may write paragraphs to decline an invitation or justify needing a quiet weekend. Overexplaining often reflects discomfort with disappointing others, not an actual need for more detail. Practise giving a warm but complete answer: “I can’t make it this time, but thank you for inviting me.” A clear boundary does not become kinder simply because it is longer.6. Constant productivity becomes a form of escapeStaying busy can create temporary control when feelings are harder to face. You clean, organise, answer emails and start new tasks, yet become uneasy the moment everything goes quiet. Productivity is useful, but it can also postpone reflection. Notice whether your activity serves a real priority or merely prevents stillness. Setting aside ten unstructured minutes to write down what is bothering you can reveal needs that another completed task will not resolve.7. Emotional numbness replaces obvious sadness or angerOverload does not always look dramatic. Sometimes it feels like flatness: good news barely registers, difficult news seems distant and you move through the day on autopilot. Numbness can be a temporary protective response rather than proof that you do not care. Gentle grounding may help you reconnect—notice physical sensations, name your current feeling without forcing it, or speak with someone trustworthy. If the disconnection persists or disrupts daily life, consider professional support.8. Noise, clutter and crowds become harder to tolerateA busy room, untidy counter or overlapping conversation may suddenly feel unbearable. When your attention is already overloaded, extra sensory input can become the final demand rather than harmless background. You do not need to reorganise your entire life. Create one calmer corner, silence nonessential alerts or step outside for several minutes. Reducing input is not avoiding reality; it is giving your nervous system fewer things to process at once.9. Past conversations keep replaying without resolutionYou may repeatedly revisit someone’s tone, your exact wording or what you should have said. Reflection can teach you something, but replaying the same scene without new insight usually keeps the emotional tension active. Ask two questions: “Is there an action I can take?” and “Is there information I do not have?” If action is possible, choose it. If not, write down the thought and deliberately redirect your attention to the present.10. Activities you enjoy start feeling like obligationsA hobby, workout or weekly gathering can lose its appeal when your inner resources are low. This does not automatically mean you have outgrown it; enjoyment may simply be buried beneath pressure. Instead of forcing full participation or abandoning it entirely, make the activity smaller. Read two pages, walk for ten minutes or meet a friend briefly. If loss of interest is persistent, widespread or concerning, talking with a qualified professional may be worthwhile.

Michael Douglas Says Five-Day Basic Instinct Scene Left Sharon Stone With a Rash New

Michael Douglas Says Five-Day Basic Instinct Scene Left Sharon Stone With a Rash

Published 14:44 8 Oct 2026 GMT+1It might have looked sexy onscreen, but the reality was anything butMichael Douglas has made a rather awkward confession about filming intimate scenes with Sharon Stone, revealing that his facial hair left his co-star with a painful rash. The 82-year-old Hollywood legend starred alongside Stone, now 68, in the 1992 thriller Basic Instinct, which became one of the most talked-about films of the decade. While the movie is perhaps best remembered for Stone's infamous interrogation scene, it turns out there was another rather uncomfortable moment happening behind the scenes. In his newly released memoir, One Helluva Ride, Douglas recalled how filming one particularly steamy sequence took five days, during which his stubble caused irritation to Stone's skin.AdvertAccording to Page Six, the actress was left with a rash on her upper thighs and eventually asked Douglas to 'go easy' on her.Michael Douglas has opened up about what it was like filming Basic Instinct (Photo by Mike Coppola/Getty Images for TCM)Despite how convincing their on-screen chemistry appeared, Douglas also clarified that the pair weren't actually intimate during filming. The actor, who played detective Nick Curran opposite Stone's mysterious crime novelist Catherine Tramell, explained that their scenes were carefully choreographed to create the erotic illusion. However, his revelation has brought attention to a warning from a health expert about the potential risks associated with facial hair. And apparently, it's not just scratchy stubble people need to be mindful of.Expert issues warning about kissing bearded menConsultant trichologist Carol Walker, from the Birmingham Trichology Centre, previously warned that facial hair can trap bacteria, dirt and other substances.Speaking to the MailOnline, she explained why beards can become particularly unhygienic when they're not washed regularly."Beards harbour more germs because facial hair is courser than other hair, so traps dirt and germs more easily," she said."If their hands are dirty, they transfer dirt from their hands on to their face and mouth."The two filmed many intimate scenes for Basic Instinct (Photo by TriStar/Getty Images)According to Walker, facial hair can collect everything from food particles to bacteria transferred from someone's hands. The warmth and moisture around the face can also create conditions in which certain bacteria multiply. And while that might sound pretty unpleasant, the expert pointed out that many of these microorganisms are also naturally found on human skin. The concern is therefore less about having a beard in the first place and more about keeping it clean.Walker also highlighted how food can become trapped in facial hair, particularly dairy products."If someone’s eating dairy products it can get stuck in their beard and become a bit rancid," she warned.Beards are hugely popular, but can pose a health risk (Getty Stock)Why can stubble cause a rash?Even a freshly washed beard can cause irritation, particularly during prolonged kissing or intimate contact.Short, coarse facial hairs can rub against delicate skin, causing friction that may result in redness, soreness and inflammation. This is sometimes referred to as 'beard burn', and it can occur even when the person with facial hair has excellent hygiene.Repeated rubbing can also disrupt the skin's protective barrier, potentially making it more vulnerable to irritation or infection. However, a friction rash isn't necessarily a sign of bacterial contamination, and Douglas hasn't suggested that Stone's reaction was caused by poor hygiene. For anyone experiencing similar irritation, avoiding further friction and using a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser may help the skin recover.Keeping facial hair clean and using products that soften coarse hairs can also reduce discomfort. If a rash becomes increasingly painful, spreads or shows signs of infection, it's best to seek medical advice. As for Douglas, his revelation offers a rather unexpected glimpse into what really went on behind the scenes of one of Hollywood's most provocative films. It seems those steamy sequences weren't quite as glamorous as they looked on screen.Featured Image Credit: Mike Coppola/Getty Images/ Chloe Kern/WireImage / Sunset Boulevard/Corbis via Getty ImagesTopics: Health, Women's Health, Sex and Relationships, Celebrity

Mazniku contrasts Lushnja with Divjaka: Municipal projects are needed to secure EU funding

Zhvillimi i turizmit. Lushnja shpenzon? Po.

Russlands Starlink-Rivale Rasswet: 32 Satelliten sind bereits im All New

Was steckt hinter dem Vorhaben? Was steckt hinter Putins Weltraumprojekt?
